Tripwire Interactive has today announced Killing Floor, a massively enhanced retail release of a mod originally made available for free in 2005 for Unreal Tournament 2004.

Alex Quick, the mod's lead developer, approached Tripwire about porting Killing Floor over to Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45, the winner of Epic Games' original Make Something Unreal competition, and one of the most successful independently developed titles to be released through Steam. Tripwire countered, offering instead to purchase Killing Floor, and to help a group of the original developers release it as a highly polished, upgraded retail product.
