HELLO ALL! I'm gonna talk to u about skin installation and skinning. First off ill talk about skin installation Have you ever seen a skin for a weapon or player model on FPSB but u dont know how to install it? this is common in ppl who are new to skinning. so ill make a tutorial on instructions on how to install them. 1. download WinRAR (link provided) => http://www.download.com/WinRAR/3000-2250_4-10007677.html 2. download your favorite skin 3. WinRAR will auto open with the skin u just downloaded 4. Now open up My Computer and go to C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps//counter strike: source/ 5. You should now see 4 folders named bin, cstrike, hl2, and platform. theses folders contain everything u need to play CS:S 6. open WinRAR that has ur skin 7. now if u see a folder that says cstrike then drag an drop that folder in a blank space on ur previously opened My Computer. (If u dont see a cstrike folder then skip to step 11.) 8. it should ask u this "this folder already contains a folder named 'cstrike'. 9. if it doesnt ask you this then u did it wrong. 10. after it asks u then select "Yes to All". (skip to step ) 11. If ur skin did not have a cstrike folder but it has either materials, models, sounds, or scripts then select all of them and open the My Computer again and go back to C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps//counter strike: source. and this time open up the cstrike folder. 12. Open up WinRAR again and drag all of the folders that said either materials, models, sounds, or scripts into the cstrike folder on My Computer. 13. FINISHED! your done! now close out WinRAR and My Computer and open up CS:S and play a server of choice (preferrably FS) and KICK ASS with your new skins!!! P.S. Some skins dont have a cstrike or even the materials, models, sounds, or scripts folder. This is Because some posters on FPSB expect u to know everything and therefore they dont bother to put it in a simpler way. If u encounter this just ask me my Steam Account Name is MWOlson06. Thank You. (advanced users only) Ok so here im gonna tell you how to make your VERY OWN SKINS! Just follow these simple steps i give you and you should be skinning in NO TIME! 1. Install VTFEdit (link provided) => http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?c=149 (NOTE: you will also have to install a .NET Framework. It is required for VTFEdit to function.) 2. Make a folder named Skins on your desktop. 3. download and excract ur favorite skin to that folder u just made 4. open up the folder and click on the vtf file. for instance if u were makin hand skins then u would click on the v_hands file (Note: Don't click on the v_hands file thats only 1 kb!!!) 5. VTFedit should open with a picture of ur skin in vtf format. 6. click on File/Export 7. save it to ur Skins folder but before then make sure u change the format to jpeg 8.open the jpeg image thats in your Skins folder in paint 9. Now u can fully customize it however u want.(im sure i dont need to walk u thru Paint also) 10. when your done save it and open the vtf file v_hands again and this time u click File/Import 11. select the jpeg pic of ur skin u made and kit OK 12. allow time for it to load and when its done you click save as and u save it in your skins folder.(name it v_hands) 13. it should now ask you this "a file named 'v_hands' already exists. Would you like to replace it? Select 'Yes' 14. now move the vtf file to ur cstrike/materials/models/weapons/v_models/hands folder if u want to use it right away. It will ask you if u want to replace it. Select 'Yes' (you can also just send it to ppl thru XFIRE) 15. FINISHED! your done with your first hands Skin!! (NOTE: weapon skins are a little different they also have a w_model (w_model is the model u see on the ground and in other players hands. v_models is the model that u see on yourself in first person view.) For Weapons youll have to also edit the w_model in order for a full customized weapon. just use the same steps but the pic is a little different but try to get it as close as possible to ur v_model one.
