EventScripts (Win) for TF2 goes public beta
The Windows version of EventScripts 2.1 for Orange Box engine has been published for public beta testing. Linux version will come later.

This version is mainly designed for Team Fortress 2 but will work on all Source games using the new Orange Box engine. The Source games using the older Episode One engine continue using EventScripts 2.0 beta or EventScripts 1.5 versions.

The Orange Box allows EventScripts to perform some new functions more efficiently that were not either possible or were a bit hacky in previous versions.

Notable changes for scripters are:
  • EventScripts now allows respawning players.
  • Ability to create an entity and modify its information before spawning it to the game. This allows creating any entity anywhere with any spawnflags and optinally with unique targetname.
  • Console commands can now be directly called from Python scripts.
  • Entities' networked properties can now be directly accessed with a cached interface.

Year 2008: EventScripts at PyCon08!
Evie wishes you happy new year!

No one will know what exactly this new year will bring to us, but some things are sure. EventScripts is still being developed, there will be some interesting news regarding eXtensible Admin and Orange Box version sometime this year.

Something that is also known in this point is that Mattie will be speaking about getting Python into Counter-Strike: Source as part of EventScripts 2.0 at PyCon08, held 14th -- 16th March 2008!

If you are at the area at that time, consider visiting to hear more about what all was involved in getting Python into one of the most popular multi-player games on the world.
