The Third Schism

The Dark Side is a community based around you. Everyone can contribute news stories, their own reviews and their own articles and blogs without all the fanboy bullshit you get on the mainstream sites.

Joining the dark side of gaming also means you can take part in organised gaming nights on Xbox Live, Playstation Network and of course PC.

We even have our own Left for Dead server so remember to also join TDS on steam.

TDS Down Time
Unfortunately somebody with no life decided to hack the host's server on new year's eve causing a massive loss of site data for over 800 of their sites (the backups got corrupted too).

Thankfully it didn't touch the databases so we have lost no content on the site. Unfortunately we do have to rebuild the site so this means it will be down for a few days. We will get it back up as quickly as possible but with some things still being done server side we may be slower than we'd like.

Caption Compo and Arcade
Firstly we've been running a caption compo for the last few weeks which has been quite amusing. Last weeks winner was Sir Loin of Steak with his Dirty Harry inspired entry:

Place your entry on the forum! for this weeks pic:

We're currently running a tournament in the Dark Side Arcade called Hidden Zombie. Take part to see if you are the ultimate Zombie spotter! Next weeks tournament will have a REAL prize!

We're now also up to part 9 in our "best at" series on the forum. This week we ask you: What game has the best story.

I know a bunch of you will be getting L4D2 and we're currently discussing putting our 2nd group of 4 together in order to purchase the much cheaper 4-pack version of the game on Steam. Kric is organising this, so post HERE if you are interested.

Darth Morbus interviews Cannon Fodder Creator
TDS Interview with Jon Hare. Carried out by scarysheep and Darth Morbus.

Any gamer worth their salt will recognise Jon Hare's name immediately, so let's abandon the pleasantries and get on with this "Hare-raising" interview... Sorry. I'll be more "Sensible" for the rest of it. (Stop that now. Ed.)

SS: So, you're here today as part of Urbis's programme of Videogame Nation events. Do you think that events such as this one mean that video games have achieved mainstream acceptance?

JH: Yeah, I've known of one other thing like this in Edinburgh before, about 2 or 3 years ago, Game On. It shows that stuff can be done that starts moving to at least the mainstream consciousness as being something which is permanent. It's happening because the people that played games, particularly the older games, are getting older themselves. What you notice in the media is if you take the people who understand it and were fans of it to be of a certain age to have power in...
