Hmm, that guy probably don't know much about crpg. Oblivion rich and deep? Come on. It's a nice game, but not deep. More for casual gamers. Morrowind is much deeper and more crpg. Diablo II is a hack & slash and doesn't fit in the list. Unless he also takes the subgenres. It's his own opinion offcourse, but if he really want to meant crpg's, then oblivion, fallout 3 and diablo II don't belong there.
If that was supposed to be a list of top ten crpg's, well, all of you probably know how I would feel about it. ,)
A great post by Konjad in there btw.
Unfortunately, since they said top ten western rpg's, which is a broader term than crpg, they can get away with it. Still even then, those are pretty random choices, with some really poor ones, some great and some average..
Taste truly is personal.. And there is no accounting for it. ,)
Yeah, they posted top 10 western rpg. So that means also the subgenres such as action rpg and hack & slash. In that case oblivion, fallout 3, deus ex, mass effect and diablo II fit. Although mass effect is more shooter like then rpg. Oh and fallout 3 is an action rpg, not a fps There are shooter elements in it, but it is not a full shooter. I consider mass effect more as a shooter.
"Yeah, they posted top 10 western rpg. So that means also the subgenres such as action rpg and hack & slash. "
Why? Western cRPGs means just cRPGs without Japanese ones and I don't see any reason to include Diablo II or Fallout 3 in there. These are just not cRPGs.
I wrote my comment on their site though I doubt it will help anyhow. Maybe if there are more people laughting and criticizing it on their site they may think next time before writing something like this. If you want to register on their site and post it is really easy and fast - you just write your nick, e-mail and password so tell them how retarded that list is if you have some time, maybe it will help if there are more of us
But they are RPG's, only then in an other form. Fallout 3 is officially an action rpg and diablo is a prized hack & slash rpg. They are not cRPG's where the story is important or it is based on certain rules, but games like diablo are counted as rpg. And that list which is posted over there is just his opinion Not a great list, i admit. It can be better. I would not list games as mass effect, oblivion or fallout 3 in there. I've already made an account over there.
I don't think this is a good list either really. Not saying I don't love the games on it. But I think he is using RPG as blanket term. cRPG is pretty hard to really define right even for hardcore fans. I think most people think cRPGs(RPGs to the masses) are all about stats/skills and leveling. It was not long ago that I thought close to the same thing. I do think it an important part of being a cRPG but far from the only element a cRPG should have. RPG will most likely always be a blanket term for the elements that I stated above.
