Hl2 mods
I've been downloading like crazy lately. As you'd expect, 90% of what I find is total crap. There are a few good ones in there too though.
Synergy (multi-player)
It's essentially HL2 coop. There's a decent number of players. It's alright. Pretty much playing HL2 again, but with more people.
Obsidian Conflict (multi-player)
Think Synergy + Smod. This is the most mapper-friendly mod I've ever seen. Each map can have a unique config file and weapons. It's not all shooting maps either. There are some fishing and harvest maps as well as a npc vs npc map (called kake). You have full access to all the HL1, HL2, EP1, and EP2 maps.
One of the really cool features is the map select room. To select a map you break down the a door and enter a hall to change the map. There's usually a preview picture and description next to each door so you know what you'll be getting into. So no more map voting, now you physically compete to pick the map you want. Imagine that with 16 people!
