Yesterday EA released Battlefield 1943 on the Xbox 360 and as of day 2 are unable to keep up with demand for online servers. Check it out:
Reports are coming in from EA employees that, "BF 1943 servers are currently maxed out but we are quickly adding more servers to accommodate demand," said EA Online Marketing Manager Jonathan Long. The official Battlefield 1943 twitter profile released this statement moments ago, "Xbox 360 will have around double the servers we have now by 4:30 PST (12:30 GMT)! This will be done in stages so please bear with us." Dice Producer Gordon Van Dyke said, "DICE and EA-IT is at DEFCON 1 adding servers faster than two rats f***ing in a wool sock!!"
Battlefield 1943 should be releasing later today in North America on the PlayStation Network store for PlayStation 3's. The PSN stores in Europe and Japan already have the game available for purchase and download.

New Battlefield 1943 Previews + Interviews

A number of new previews and interviews have been released today alongside the new Iwo Jima Trailer(http://www.shackvideo.com/?id=14310). Check out some excerpts from the Shacknews interview below (not all questions were about BF1943!):
Shack: There have been some rumblings that the PC edition of Battlefield 1943 could remove the 24-player limit of the console versions along with unlimited ammo and regenerating health. Any truth to that?
Van Dyke: Those are all things that we're taking into consideration. We know that the PC crowd, they look for some different things in games than maybe somebody on the console. So it's definitely something we're thinking about, but we're not gonna restrict one or the other.
Whatever we do come up with, we're gonna try and make sure we maintain the core values of this game that we've worked so hard on and the core gameplay features, but then look at what the PC can support and if it can offer some alternatives and things in that...

So far, at least four different sites have managed to grab some hands-on time with the upcoming Battlefield 1943. Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/battlefield-1943-hands-on) has a nice two page spread that outlines the key changes made to the game since 1942.
Never mind Bad Company - welcome to Dimwit Company. Nobody's talking to one another - hardly surprising, since the guys to either side of me are Italian, French and Spanish - and once the landing craft hit the beach, we've all regressed by about seven years. Italy's landed a biplane upside down on an anti-aircraft...

It's hard to believe that it's been seven years since the release of the original Battlefield 1942, but that's exactly how long it's been since PC gamers were first rapturously enthralled by DICE's online action game. And though we've seen many sequels since then, this is the first time the team is returning to the World War II setting that launched the series. We had the chance to play through the latest build of Battlefield 1943 at Comic Con today and are now even more excited to see how the final game shapes up.
The designers are sticking close to the original Battlefield 1942 model, even reusing the islands of Wake, Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal as the game's three levels. But this time around the levels are being rendered using DICE's new Frostbite engine, which allows for much more detail and destruction in the levels. Watching as a tank blasts through the walls of a bombed out shack as infantry cower in the tall grass nearby...
