Hi everyone,

As you know the Red Shadows website is pretty shite at the mo and not being used much, this is mainly down to being not very useful and quite frankly just not needed. The forums are not that much better, being quite a bit out of date, messy, and worst of all SLOW, ERROR PRONE and ANNOYING when those blank pages appear all too often. This may have caused members to lose interest in the forums (even the core members), and as a result less activity has been present here.

Enough is enough!

I have recently purchased a new hosting package with a UK host this time (current one is hosted in Germany) which I have several other sites hosted on already, which in my experience with them have been super fast response times when loading pages. Of course being in the UK myself I cant vouch for our euro friends, but i have a lot of confidence euro and even US members will receive much faster speeds when loading our forums.

During the transfer to the new host, I will be creating a fresh new website that will intergrate with the forums, so it will be easy to switch between the two without seeming like you are looking at a different site. With this will come a theme for the forums that links with the website so both look the same. To start with only 1 theme will be available but more will be added in due course.

Unfortunatley during the transfer process I will need to take down the forums, with no one having access. This will hopefully be kept to a minimum and prior notice will be given.

Also, I have purchased another domain name for Red Shadows as the current one is still owned by the web hosting company, which while i have hosting with them is free, if i want to release it i will have to pay and one of fee, and then a annual fee for the domain, which is quite expensive for a .eu domain. I will keep this domain for another 6-12 months and set a redirect to the new domain when the transfer has been successful, and these forums will still be here for the same period as well, so you can still use it as a reference.

I won't be importing any posts to the new forums, as it will be a fresh install on new software and i dont want any of the rubbsih from this forum clogging and slowing the new database up (this forum was imported twice before so has old unused data with it)

I will be importing the member database, so you will not have to re-register

If you have any ideas or features you woul like to see on the website or forums please let me know and i will do my best to include them.

Thanks for reading

Mark
Original post here.

This means our forum at http://forums.redshadows.eu/ will become an archive in about 12 months. We will get a new forum on the new site aswell. This forum on xfire won't change when this happens, but it will become more useful, as the threads here will be more permanent.
