Arsenal release seven players
Arsenal Football Club will be releasing seven players at the end of their contracts on June 30.

Professionals Manuel Almunia, George Brislen-Hall, Gavin Hoyte, Sean McDermott, Rhys Murphy, together with Scholars James Campbell and Jeffrey Monakana will all be released on July 1 and are therefore free to join other clubs from this point.

From the departing players, Almunia and Hoyte both made first team appearances. Manuel Almunia made a total of 175 first team appearances since joining from Celta Vigo in July 2004, keeping an impressive 70 clean sheets.

Initial Van Persie talks end in deadlock
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger failed to come to a resolution with striker Robin van Persie about his future after face-to-face talks on Wednesday, according to widespread reports in the English media.

Van Persie's future at Emirates Stadium is currently the subject of much speculation, with the Dutchman's existing contract set to expire next summer.

The forward is yet to sign a new deal as he has delayed extension negotiations until the off-season, with Juventus, Barcelona and Manchester City all said to be among a number of clubs strongly interested in his signature.

Van Persie and Wenger finally met on Wednesday to discuss the forward's long-term future at the club, as the 37-goal striker revealed his concerns about the Gunners' inability to challenge for major trophies. The north London club finished third in the Premier League this season, 19 points off champions City.

Wenger reportedly told his striker that the recent signing of Lukas Podolski - along with further summer acquisitions -...

Arsenal's 'Invincibles' voted greatest team
[image hidden]
Arsene Wenger has set his current squad the target of emulating the heroics of Arsenal's 'Invincibles' side.
Wenger's class of 2003-04 has been voted the greatest team of the era as part of the Premier League's celebrations of the last 20 seasons.
Arsenal ended that season unbeaten in the top flight as they cruised to the title with an 11-point winning margin.
Arsenal's class of 2003-04
They might have been eliminated from the Champions League quarter-finals, but the Gunners managed to go through an entire Premier League campaign undefeated to regain their status as Premier League champions, thus becoming only the second team to do so since Preston North End in 1889.

"My target is to get back to that, to get back to that level," said Gunners manager Wenger.
Blackburn's title-winning side of 1994-95 and Manchester United's treble winning team of 1998-99 were also in the running for the award.
But the legendary Arsenal side, captained by Patrick Vieira, came out on...
