Xfire Skin Contest
Whether you are a professional or an amateur skin creator, we’ve got the ideal contest for you: our first Xfire Skin Contest. With big prizes and several different categories, you have a great chance to win. The categories are:
Xfire Themed
The best skin incorporating an Xfire theme (logos, colors, etc.) will be chosen. This is the most general category – any design will be considered, as long as it features Xfire themes. This skin would be intended for distribution as a default, or alternative to the default, skin with the Xfire client.
Game Themed
The best skin focused on a specific game will be chosen. This skin should use the logo, colors, theme of a game or game series. In order to distribute the skin, Xfire will need to secure rights to relevant logos, trademarks, etc. We have already secured permission for Call of Duty and America’s Army skins. Skins based on other games are welcome, but we will need to work with the artist and the game publisher in order to obtain the appropriate distribution rights, otherwise winners may not be distributed.
Brand Themed
The best skin incorporating the logo, theme, and colors of a favorite consumer brand will be chosen. As with the Game Themed skins, we have already secured permission to create and distribute a Mountain Dew and SpikeTV themed skin. Skins based on other consumer brands are welcome, but we will need to work with the artist and the brand owner in order to obtain the appropriate distribution rights, otherwise winners may not be distributed.
Prizes
First, second and third prizes will be awarded for each of
the three contests listed above. In addition, there is a special award in each
category for anyone who is unable to submit a complete skin and submits art
only. In other words, there is a
potential of 12 prizes that will be awarded! The prizes for each contest are:
First Prize (each contest): $700.00
Second Prize (each contest): $200.00
Third Prize (each contest): $100.00
Special “Art Only” Prize (each contest): $300.00

- Skin
and artwork submissions must be received no later than
- Entrants are asked to identify the categories for which each skin submission is being offered. However, at the judges' discretion contest submissions may be judged in more categories than the entrant designated.
- Skins will be judged by an Xfire committee. Winners will be evaluated on the quality of the artwork, creative use of relevant themes, and feasibility for implementation as an official skin. The decisions will be final. Xfire reserves the right to disqualify any entry which is, in any individual judge's sole discretion, inappropriate. Xfire reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify winners and to choose alternate winners if the winner refuses to abide by the contest terms or if the selection of a particular entrant would, in Xfire’s sole discretion, harm Xfire’s reputation.
- Winners will be notified via e-mail and announced on the Xfire skins contest website (http://www.xfire.com/xf/skinscontest.php.) In the event a winner does not respond to contact within 30 calendar days of prize announcements, new winners can be drawn at Xfire’s sole discretion.
- An entrant's submission of entry constitutes permission for Xfire, in Xfire’s sole discretion, to use entrant's name and other material provided in the entry for any business purpose, including for promotional purposes in any media. This includes the right to place links to the skin’s download URL on the Xfire and/or Xfire affiliates’ web sites and on the contest web site, the right to host the skin on their web site(s) and on the contest web site as well as provide copies of the entered skins for use on magazine cover discs, Xfire fan sites, download sites, and other web sites of their choosing.
- Prizes may not be awarded if there are insufficient entries in a particular category.
- All prizes listed herein, unless otherwise specifically noted, are cash prizes in U.S. dollars. All costs, taxes, fees and expenses associated with entry into this contest and any prizes received shall be the sole responsibility of the entrants and winners. To the extent required by law, Xfire reserves the right to withhold a portion of winnings for applicable taxes.
- By participating, entrant agrees to release and hold harmless Xfire and the officers, directors, employees, investors, agents, and representatives of Xfire from any injury, loss, or damage to person, including death or property, due in-whole or in-part, directly or indirectly, to the acceptance from or use/misuse of a prize or participation in any promotion-related activity.
- Xfire is not responsible for any typographical or other error in the printing of this offer, in the administration of the contest, or in the announcement of prizes. In the event that Xfire is prevented from continuing with the contest, or the integrity and/or feasibility of the contest is severely undermined by any event beyond Xfire’s control, including but not limited to fire; flood; epidemic; earthquake; explosion; labor dispute; strike; act of God; public enemy act; satellite or equipment failure; riot or civil disturbance; war (declared or undeclared); terrorist threat or activity; any federal, state, or local governmental law, order, or regulation; order of any court or jurisdiction; or other cause not reasonably within Xfires’ control (each a "Force Majeure" event), Xfire will have the right, in their sole discretion, to abbreviate, modify, suspend, cancel, or terminate the contest without further obligation.
- If sponsors, in their sole discretion, elect to abbreviate the promotion as a result of a Force Majeure event, Xfire reserves the right, but not the obligation, to award the prize from among all eligible entries received up to the date of such Force Majeure event.
- Contest rules and procedures may be changed or supplemented at any time; please visit the website often for postings of additional or modified rules and procedures to make sure that your submission complies or will comply.
- Entrants
of all ages are eligible to participate. Employees and agents of Xfire,
and members of their immediate families (parents, children, siblings,
spouses) and/or persons living in the same households as such persons,
whether related or not, are ineligible to enter the contest and cannot win

Skin Rules
- Skin submissions need to be functional and tested on an Xfire client. The skins should fully comply with the rules described in the Submissions Guideline. Artwork submissions need only to be high-resolution graphics files.
- Upon request and subject to availability, Xfire may be able to put entrants in touch with users who have experience coding Xfire skins to help with troubleshooting, etc. Entrants can submit as a team (ie, artist and coder.)
- Entrants will be required to fill in a Submission Release that verifies you represent the creators of the skin and that you agree to comply with all the rules and all decisions of the judges. You will be required to provide your name, email address, and URL where judges can download your skin. All entries must be the original creations of the entrants, not contain any intellectual property not owned by the entrant and must not have been professionally developed unless written authorization from the intellectual property owner is provided at the time of entry submission.
- By
entering the contest, although you will retain the full right to use any winning
entries for your own personal or other commercial purposes, Xfire retains
the rights for commercial use and free distribution for any winning skins
on our website,
