Menlo Park, CA – August 12, 2004 – Xfire, the killer app for gamers, and Spike TV, the first network for men, today announced the launch of the “Build the Biggest Gamer Network” contest.  To enter, players download the Spike TV-skinned version of Xfire and invite their gamer friends to join in order to build the biggest gamer network of friends and friends-of-friends.  The contest ends at 12:01 AM ET on August 20, 2004.  The winner will receive two tickets to the 2004 Spike TV Video Game Awards, including roundtrip airfare to Los Angeles and hotel accommodations.

Xfire is a free tool that automatically tracks when and where gamers’ friends are playing PC games online. With one click, gamers can instantly join their friends’ games or play with friends of friends.  Xfire also lets gamers message their friends who are in-game without crashing their game.  On Monday, Xfire also announced PC game server browsing and joining functionality that tracks a player’s recent and favorite servers, along with their friend’s favorite servers.

The “Build the Biggest Gamer Network” contest will kick-off at QuakeCon 2004, in Grapeville, Texas, which runs from August 12 through August 15, 2004.  The Spike TV-skinned version of Xfire will be distributed at QuakeCon or can be downloaded from SpikeTV.com at www.spiketv.com/events/xfire. The winner of the contest will be announced on SpikeTV.com.

“Many Spike TV viewers are big online gamers, and we wanted to do something fun for them,” said Kim Morgan, Director, SpikeTV.com.  “Xfire makes it extremely easy for Spike TV viewers to play online games with their friends.”

“Xfire and Spike TV share a common audience so this is a perfect fit,” said Dennis “Thresh” Fong, co-founder of Xfire and world champion of Doom and Quake.  “The Build the Biggest Gamer Network contest provides these viewers an amazing opportunity to expand their gaming network and to win a trip to one of the coolest award shows around – the Spike TV 2004 Video Game Awards.”
