[Xfire] dooleygee: Hello!
[Xfire] dooleygee: Welcome to the MC Frontalot Chat, I always want to remind everyone to join the Xfire Debate Club, the first meeting is next Wednesday
[Xfire] dooleygee: http://www.xfire.com/cms/xf_debate/
[Xfire] dooleygee: We will be discussing WoW: BC
[Xfire] dooleygee: with some awesome guests
[Xfire] dooleygee: If you ask good questions and answer thoughtfully, you will get invited to the clan: The Two Handed Sword
[Xfire] Chatteox: Hello and welcome to the MC Frontalot chat, MC Frontalot and his band members will now introduce themselves and start taking your questions.
[Xfire] dooleygee: Welcome all!
MC Frontalot: HELLO INTERNET PEOPLES!
MC Frontalot: I am MC Frontalot, which you have figured out already from my username
MC Frontalot: Blak Lotus is my bass player
MC Frontalot: and Gm7 is my keyboardist
MC Frontalot: Baddd Spellah is, I believe, also in the "house"
badddspellah: hey!
MC Frontalot: Spellah, they wonder who you are.
MC Frontalot: Also, Baddd, did you explain who the hell you are?
badddspellah: oh who I am I am Front's beatmaking buddy
MC Frontalot: he and Gm7 are responsible for most of the noises on my CD
MC Frontalot: Also, Doggy Fresh is participating by getting in our laps and making typing difficult.
badddspellah: Question: RIP] K1DD: WHere did you come up with your names?
Answer: bl4kl0tus: My name should hopefully be an obvious reference for any gamers out there who love hassle, the dorkening, but for those who don't know magic cards, Black Lotus (with a C) is usually the most ridiculously expensive magic card from Alpha or Beta editions. Last I checked in a store, I saw a price of $2000, although if you buy things like that in stores, you are really getting hosed.
Answer: gminor7: My name is the chord G minor 7. It's easy to play.
Answer: badddspellah: Baddd Spellah was a spoof boyband I was going to start up in college... it was gonna have dumb-ass song names like "I'll B There 4 U" etc...
Answer: MC Frontalot: I thought fronting a lot would be the last thing a rapper would want to admit to... so I figured nobody else would be using the name yet.
badddspellah: I often wondered if Sir Mixalot had any bearing on your name, Front
MC Frontalot: Well, his is kind of more clever, isn't it?
MC Frontalot: Because it's like Lancelot.
badddspellah: mind: blown
MC Frontalot: I remember thinking more about the Ghetto Boys' "Rap-A-Lot Records"
MC Frontalot: Question: Possesed [SimpleGFX.net]: Mr.MC do you think you are competing with other gaming singers, such as Basshunter?
Answer: Actually, until all singers are doing songs about gaming, I think we're in it together just kind of builds interest all around.
MC Frontalot: Question: creed: How can we be sure you're the real Frontalot?
Answer: You cannot possibly be sure. I am not even sure.
MC Frontalot: Question: partialinfinity: Is the song "Yellow Lasers" based on personal experience?
Answer: Actually, embarrassingly, I have never been to a Star Wars con. Less embarrassingly, I have never been peed on.
MC Frontalot: Question: dEEEEEEEEEEEE1_!?: what is your favourite rapper??
Answer: MC Frontalot: I think this week I have to say MOs Def
Answer: badddspellah: I really really like Lupe Fiasco right now... he's about as nerdy mainstream rap as you can get raps about Mum-ra... Lupin the 3rd,etc... and his flows are toight!
badddspellah: Question: nameback: What game are you looking forward to the most in 2007?
Answer: badddspellah: I'm super-stoked for Spore... will probably have to buy a new rig to run it :|
Answer: MC Frontalot: Oh hecks yes spore that is why I have the 7900GT
Answer: bl4kl0tus: Spore! Although, I think I will just hang out at the early levels and create millions of funny looking aliens. Sadly, however, I probably won't have the time.
gminor7: Question: KelpyDude: How did your whole crew meet?
Answer: gminor7: Front and I met in high school...
Answer: badddspellah: On the interweeb for me! Front and I never even shook hands until years later on at PAX 2005
Answer: bl4kl0tus: Frontalot was a prospective student at Wesleyan University in CT when I was a freshman there. He stayed on my hall and got this obsessive crush on my best female friend. We blew off a lot of our coursework and just hung out all day. Then he enrolled because he couldn't stop thinking about her. Well, when he got there the following year, it was a littl ecrushing for him at first I think, but then she, he, and I all became good friends.
Answer: MC Frontalot: Gm7 and I met at Berkeley High we became friends at the King Jr High pool when Gm7 read me his dirty poetry
gminor7: And bonded over not getting any womens
gminor7: Actually, that was more my thing in high school than fronts. He was a nerd but he was smooth.
bl4kl0tus: Then later Gm7 and I and Nate Van Ill (Boston rapper) were all in this funky dance band at Front was one of three judges for the battle of the bands, but he dissed us and voted for the rap act. Now, if that isn't integrity, I don't know what. But, he did sort of shatter my rock n roll movie inspired dreams of winning the school battle of the bands.
MC Frontalot: blaklotus, I will regret that forever, particularly if you never stop RUBBING IT IN
MC Frontalot: you know why I voted against you guys in that battle of the bands?
MC Frontalot: it was peer pressure from those goddamn indie rock snobs that were my co-boardmembers at WESU
MC Frontalot: and co-judges
bl4kl0tus: peer pressure? And here, I was spinning your integrity.
MC Frontalot: they were going to think I was the BIGGEST JERK ON EARTH if I voted for Iguana
MC Frontalot: Question: canarynaib: Your frontpage has a quote by Noam Chomsky. Are you into the literary side of nerdcore? Cory Doctorow, a Canadian sf writer, claims to have pioneered the literary nerdcore movement, ever heard of him?
Answer: Sure, Cory runs BoingBoing. He's a nice fellow. I am definitely on the lit side of being a nerd. If comic books count. I do not read tons of SF because it is usually written by people who no write gooot.
MC Frontalot: Question: Lacuna: Is the song Goth Girls based on your actual experiences with the Darkly Inclined?
Answer: yes, that song is absolutely true. No goth girl has ever given me the time of day.
badddspellah: Question: rickjs: What do you think of the girl rappers? ie: MC router, nursehellah
Answer: badddspellah: They both do their thing... its like asking who's more mighty Wonder Woman or Supergirl being that nerds are mostly dudes... being a girl nerd is like... ambrosia.. so rare
Answer: MC Frontalot: all three of the ones I've heard are rad. I wish they wouldn't fuss & fight.
badddspellah: " I wish they wouldn't fuss & fight." yeah :(
MC Frontalot: Question: Artaxs: Front & Crew: Will you be playing any shows in San Francisco soon? Do you have a favorite nerd watering hole in S.F.?
Answer: I think our new tour hits SF on April 22 or 23. Hoping to catch everyone who's in the city for APE (alt press expo). My favorite places to get drinks in SF are Noc Noc on Haight, Lucky 13 on upper market... um....
gminor7: Question: KaMaKaZiE[EGG]: is there any rappers that you think are nerds on the inside?
Answer: Isn't that guy C-Lo from Gnarls Barkley kind of a nerd on the inside? With the star wars/darth vader performance? I also heard he or the other guy in the group is a Woody Allen fan.
MC Frontalot: C-Lo is a nerd
MC Frontalot: MF Doom
MC Frontalot: Busdriver
MC Frontalot: Paul Barman
badddspellah: Question: ~=}p2{=~Saphron: Are you that much of a nerd that instead of laughing, you say "lawls"?
Answer: I started typing LOLLERGAG recently for some dumb-ass reason...
gminor7: Question: canarynaib: Will the crew ever travel to the frozen wastes of canada to put on a show for the polar bears?
Answer: I really hope so. Canadians are the nicest people. Y'all have a lot to teach the US about everything, including making indie music and not having a crazy military-industrial complex.
MC Frontalot: Question: jimko: When will there be any tour dates released in the near future? Or is that not to be announced quite yet?
Answer: As soon as we have them confirmed. Offers are coming in. It starts on April 6 in boston for sure. San Diego I think April 25. Lots of stuff shaping up in between there. Keep an eye on my calendar http://frontalot.com/info ... or be on my mailing list (same page).
MC Frontalot: Question: Possesed [SimpleGFX.net]: Do you read manga and watch anime in your free time? (i know i do!)
Answer: Just watched Lupin III - Castle of Cagliostro this morning. Been digging some Crayon Shin Chan.
gminor7: Question: disposeable_hero: What would you do if you ruled the world?
Answer: gminor7: Eradicate poverty, tour Canada.
Answer: bl4kl0tus: If I ruled the world I would pawn it off on somebody else. Some people are just not meant to rule.
MC Frontalot: Question: {Ð2T}SFX™[λ]ъaм|Θmиїslλsh: How do you compete with big-name rappers like Eminem?
Answer: I do not. Thank goodness. We just do our little thing off in the corner here. Good luck finding eminem on xfire.
gminor7: Question: austinhg: What does it take to be #1?
Answer: Incredible self-confidence. Or web skills.
badddspellah: Question: deadites: What is your favorite non rap band
Answer: badddspellah: There's a Canadian guy Ron Sexmith who roxx my soxx if beautifully crafted singer-songwriter indie pop is your bag
Answer: MC Frontalot: Tom Waits, but I also love Soul Coughing, Jane's Addiction, early Liz Phair, PJ Harvey, Bjork
MC Frontalot: Question: {HUD} Mascott: Where is the fantastic 8-Bit music in the Nerdcore Rising trailer from, and where can I get it?
Answer: MC Frontalot: I think that might be Drown Radio (AKA Doctor Popular) but I'm not sure. A lot of ppl on YouTube were asking. I will bug the film makers to post better music credits.
Answer: gminor7: Actually, I think it's "Keith and the Girl"--go to the Nerdcore Rising myspace page. They have the credits laid out nicely.
MC Frontalot: ah, leave it to Gm7 to know things
MC Frontalot: that's what he's here for kids
badddspellah: Question: [BF] Aero -=IT=-: To baddd spellah, how long do you work on beats for a song on average?
Answer: Sometimes I don't sleep... for real... I am wired weirdly
bl4kl0tus: Question: Lana: How long have you been raping???
Answer: bl4kl0tus: Bad habit we all picked up in our adventures with Erik the Red. But honestly, my thing was always the pillaging. The raping always offended me.
Answer: MC Frontalot: since I saw Gm7 rapping in his miniband Freakshow Archie in high school. I figured if he got to do it, I get to do it.
gminor7: Question: PA Girl: If i got you approved by my school, would you come and perform there?
Answer: Sure. Where is your school and what is the pay?
MC Frontalot: Question: Storm Trooper: Since your pretty much a geek, would you get mad if we Pirated your music?
Answer: of course!!! grrrrrr. But what can I do? It's basically up to you whether you support artists or not. I am just trying to be that one guy who you spend money on this year.
MC Frontalot: Question: kingslayer06: are you going to have any upcoming cds soon?
Answer: THIS IS AN IMPORTANT QUESTION. Yes.
MC Frontalot: Secrets From The Future
MC Frontalot: releases April 6
gminor7: Question: EkaInfinitos: Which member of your band would you rather have attacked by a rabid hobo?
Answer: Ringo Starr.
MC Frontalot: Question: deathking81: How early in your life did you know you had a talent for singing?
Answer: MC Frontalot: If that was for me... I do not have much singing talent. Gm7 and Lotus are both much more accomplished singers. I'm lucky to have them on tour to do choruses and etc.
Answer: badddspellah: I only get down with Karaoke Revolution....and only "Dust in the Wind" at that
gminor7: Naw, MCF was in Concert Choral. Then he started singing on Songfight--he's got a great voice.
MC Frontalot: for that matter I sang in all those rock operas you used to write, Gm7. But I was not so good at it.
gminor7: Well, you guys will judge for yourself when "Nerdcore Rising" the documentary comes out.
MC Frontalot: Question: stperfecto: What is the most imporant aspect of nerdcore?
Answer: Not trying very hard to be One Of The Cool Kids
MC Frontalot: I think DJ Snyder is coming into the chat
MC Frontalot: he's been working on the new album with me
DJ Snyder: I am
MC Frontalot: he'll be scratching
badddspellah: Question: High Voltage: Have you ever gotten an F?
Answer: I almost failed gym class many times over in high school... since then I have learned to not fear athletics
MC Frontalot: hiya Snyder
DJ Snyder: Hello there
badddspellah: hey Snyder
DJ Snyder: I'm not sure which questions I should answer, if any. Tee-hee.
MC Frontalot: you kids should check out Snyder's scratching on the first track on the new ytcracker record. It is rad.
bl4kl0tus: Question: rickjs: Why won't you answer my "Why won't you answer my question" question?
Answer: Hey, lots of windows open here. Patience, grasshopper.
MC Frontalot: just chime in with color commentary
MC Frontalot: like some jerkoff on a sports broadcast
DJ Snyder: Perfect
badddspellah: Question: nameback: Whats your favoriate gaming/nerd Convention?
Answer: badddspellah: I want to go to DragonCon just to see the cosplay... it looks ridonkulous but sadly that's all the way across the continent
Answer: MC Frontalot: Penny Arcade Expo all the way.
DJ Snyder: ComicCon is fun if you don't have to stay in an un-cooled hotel during a heat wave.
DJ Snyder: Hells, it's fun anyway
MC Frontalot: Question: nrgu: whats the extent of your musical training?
Answer: I took clarinet in 4th grade. I took a little tiny bit of guitar in high school and also a weeeee bit of singing training in the jazz choir class. I studied electronic music production for a semester in college. Gm7 and Lotus teach me stuff sometimes.
gminor7: Question: EkaInfinitos: Do you do anything *ritualisticly* in order to "get in the zone" for a show? (i.e. drinking games, chants, sacrificing of large or small animals...)
Answer: gminor7: Yeah--we have a pre-show Chewbacca howling ritual. We also do a South American kid's warm-up exercise called "Che Che Coolay" that I learned from my friend Iain who grew up in Peru. You will probably see this and other embarrassing stuff in the documentary. Which you should go see the trailer of on Youtube...
Answer: MC Frontalot: I drink a coffee, and we all do our wookie noises to warm up, and usually we do a che che coole'
bl4kl0tus: Question: deadites: What do you think of such remixs like the Grey Album?
Answer: Brilliant. And a great model for any of you who want large scale attention. Do something absolutely creative and maverick and contemporary, but give it away free. Parasite onto other people's shit. Yes, you will get sued, but you will also get noticed if it's good. However, the key is ARTISTIC MERIT. We can all tell when someone is using something well known is an unbrilliant way just to get attention.
MC Frontalot: Question: deathking81: What was the first song you wrote? Was it released onto the web?
Answer: The first rap song I actually recorded was called No Doubt Shilleau, with my college band Devil Card. It is possible but very unlikely that an enterprising person could find it on the intarwebs somewhere.
badddspellah: Question: Sn!p3r: What is your favorite thing about making music?
Answer: badddspellah: sitting back and going "neat! I made that!" hearing people enjoy it
Answer: DJ Snyder: I like getting emails from fans
MC Frontalot: Question: Xero: What is your overall impression of MC Chris?
Answer: He is a scholar and a gentleman!
gminor7: Question: [If]FlamingAnus[SL]: in the penny arcade theme song do the lyrics about typing mean anything
Answer: Yes, it's Commodore 64 language...I think L(shift)0"$ shows the directory of a floppy disc. Correct, front?
DJ Snyder: I was actually wondering that too
DJ Snyder: Nerds!
MC Frontalot: lO"$
MC Frontalot: that's the beginning of the syntax for getting a directory off a device
badddspellah: DJ Snyder: Nerds!
badddspellah: Oldschool nerd Young Snyder
MC Frontalot: connected to a commodore 64
DJ Snyder: Clearly
badddspellah: no fancy-pantsy GUIs!
MC Frontalot: you would also need a ",8
MC Frontalot: if it were a disk
badddspellah: and a helluva lot of time to load anything
gminor7: I loved the C-64. Sadly, it is gone and so is the fun you could have with it.
badddspellah: Question: deadites: Have you heard Becks gameboy remixs? if so what do you think of it
Answer: That sounds cool! I like Beck but his latent Scientology shtick irks me
MC Frontalot: Question: <HBS>Cpl.T-Dizzle|OP|MP-2: What is the worst job you ever had?
Answer: MC Frontalot: usher at the California Theater on Kitteridge in Berkeley, age 16
Answer: bl4kl0tus: I used to be a prop player at a Blackjack 22 table in Pacheco, CA. Sounds cool, but really it stank of lung cancer and other terminal illnesses, and there were depressed Vietnamese vets and sad old people and alcoholics throwing away their retirement or their kid's college money because they desperately needed to feel lucky, even if it meant being unlucky more often.
badddspellah: Question: ~=}p2{=~Saphron: Do you guys ever just kick back and play old skool games, such as Mario Brothers for Nintendo?
Answer: badddspellah: I've been buying old GBA games for my DS... rocking Zelda: Link to the Past right now... ah misty memories of my old SNES....
Answer: gminor7: I don't, maybe front does. But we should! On our next tour. Come on, Front, we gotta bring a game system or something...
MC Frontalot: Hey I brought the PSP on the last tour and you didn't play it ONCE.
badddspellah: Question: ΞÆRØΞ: Who is your daddy and what does he do?
Answer: Hahaha
DJ Snyder: Question: nrgu: what do you think of classical music? Beethoven? Wagner? any favourite artists?
Answer: Wagner's a great inspiration to me...and Vivaldi's my hero, although I don't know if he is technically classical, because I am lazy and uneducated
MC Frontalot: Question: Lacuna: Do you really have a superiority complex about how indie you are? (As suggested by the song Indier Than Thou)
Answer: actually, check that song out again. In it I am secretly trying to make fun of indie snobbery.
badddspellah: Question: nrgu: Would you consider composing a song or two in a jazz format
Answer: badddspellah: I think you need awesome chops to make jazz not sound hokey
Answer: MC Frontalot: Common has that angle covered.
badddspellah: not to say blaklotus gm7 or front don't have said chops!
badddspellah: me= no chops
DJ Snyder: good save, spellah! :)
gminor7: Question: KaMaKaZiE[EGG]: are tour buses boring?
Answer: Yes and no...it's tiring to sit in them for long periods of time. Sleeping or watching movies is nice...we have a very comfy van.
badddspellah: Question: vH69/Vladamir.Lenin: where do you get your inspiration for your rhythmic noidalicious beats?
Answer: I hear things in that weird transition between wakefulness and sleep that causes me to jump out of bed and fire up my computer...then my clumsy hands mangle the inspiration and I go back later to rescue the spark by mutating it into something that it never was in the first place
bl4kl0tus: Question: Storm Trooper: What games have you guys played to influence your music? As in for somthing like CSS with 10 year old n00bs?
Answer: I think the music in Katamari Damacy is fantastic (both, although I am partial to the first) and it annoys me that American games tend to play it safe with these mainstream music choices in their games. Why not a thriller first person with some freaky indie japanes rock? Makes the experience unique, rather than cliche, but I also know video game industry people and...it is clear that the more mainstream a game is, the bigger the audience, the better chance it will be profitable, so that probably restricts the chances the music directors can take.
gminor7: Question: deathking81: Are there anny kidden messages in your songs?
Answer: gminor7: I don't know. If I hid any I forgot.
Answer: MC Frontalot: I have lots of secret messages take any song, then take the letters that are X characters into the song where X is each prime number in sequence (not counting punctuation) and it will spell a bunch of gibberish BUT SECRETLY
badddspellah: haha
MC Frontalot: Question: deathking81: How do you think homosexuals will react to your song : I heart fags?
Answer: So far I haven't found a gay person who didn't think that song was good clean fun. Actually there a gang of young lesbians at the Bitter End show in NYC who gave me shit after the concert because it was pride week in the Village and we didn't play that song.
badddspellah: Question: deadites: If you play your songs backwards does it tell people to kill things?
Answer: I tried it once... I was compelled to give a nerd a wedgie
badddspellah: Question: ~=}p2{=~Saphron: What is your current favorite TV show?
Answer: Lost... why did Eko have to DIEEEE???!!!
gminor7: Question: }wOn{Gut: do u and the band go barbecuing together on the weekends?
Answer: Dude, it's freezing!
badddspellah: Question: QuiK @ JaGGed Films: Does that mean you'll be sitting in front of a TV when I am, watching Lost?
Answer: Eff yeah! When's it come back? February sometime?
gminor7: Question: nrgu: Do you still think that these new songs and genres in rap are anything compared to the likes of the classical masters?
Answer: gminor7: They are not...but it's like comparing sunbathing and taxidermy.
Answer: DJ Snyder: There will be always be skilled and unskilled artists, no matter what point in time we're at
MC Frontalot: Question: liliy: so frontalot do you have a girlfriend?
Answer: I do. I live with her. I am old, like an adult.
badddspellah: Question: KILLER: I make beats , How can i get them out their to the world what should i do?
Answer: badddspellah: Try putting them on Myspace, that's a good start... join some beat-making forums (find ones that aren't filled with knuckleheads) share your bounty...
Answer: MC Frontalot: get a rapper onboard and do a songfight http://songfight.org
badddspellah: better still!
badddspellah: Question: Sn!p3r: what was your least favorite subject in school?
Answer: P to the E :p
badddspellah: Question: creed: Are you sorry for ruining season 3 of Lost for me?

badddspellah: Question: stperfecto: where do you see yourself in five years?
Answer: balder... middle-aged
badddspellah: Question: KILLER: What programs do you guys use to make beats?
Answer: badddspellah: I use Reason and Ableton Live a lot. I have an AKAI MPC1000 for sketching beats out also
Answer: DJ Snyder: I use FL Studio 6, and Reason. Audacity for recording scratches.
Answer: MC Frontalot: just quickly: Adobe Audition, Readon
MC Frontalot: Question: Xero: You answered to my previos question that MC Chris is a scholor and a gentleman... that means you have never met him, correct? What my actual question is regarding is what you think about his style, skills, content, attitude, etc?
Answer: I have met him a few times. He is a very nice guy! Also, I think his rapping is excellent and I he is completely hilarious onstage.

DJ Snyder: Question: EkaInfinitos: What do you foresee as the future of music or how do you predict it will change?
Answer: More indie artists using the internets to become famous. Internet famous. Collapse of the recording industry as we know it? Who knows
badddspellah: Question: deadites: how weird is it doing a chat like this?
Answer: I wonder if this is how my manic friend feels like inside his head....
gminor7: Question: SM DjDTM: Do you know the first rule of nerd club?
Answer: Is it: "Get in a chatroom and endlessly debate what the first rule of nerd club is"?
MC Frontalot: Question: ~=}p2{=~Saphron: What is your current favorite TV show?
Answer: MC Frontalot: Daily Show
Answer: bl4kl0tus: My fave TV show is Rome on HBO, and I need someone to help me steal it, because HBO got wise to the peer to peer and started uploading lots of bad seeds. I had a fantastic Ancient Civ teacher in high school who was always asking us to boil things down to Free Will or Determinism and I've loved any stories Pre 400 AD ever since.
badddspellah: Question: KaMaKaZiE[EGG]: do u watch the office?
Answer: BBC version FTW
MC Frontalot: Question: disposeable_hero: Have you ever made a fool of yourself playing DDR or other arcade games?
