Friends of Friends will appear under the Friends of Friends category in your friends list if they're currently playing a game. The Friends of Friends lists is limited to display only 50 people, to prevent your friends list from being expanded inordinately large.

When you first join Xfire, you're automatically given a single bot friend, called a testfriend. Everyone who registered for Xfire around the same time you did is also joined to that testfriend, allowing you to immediately connect with other new Xfire users through your Friends of Friends list.

If you'd rather deal with Friends of Friends, Go to Tools -> Options and click the Privacy tab. From here, you can disable seeing Friends of Friends, as well as prevent you from appearing on others' lists and a Friend of Friend.
