Adding friends is similar to other IM programs. To invite a friend to your Xfire list, select "Search for Xfire Users" from the Tools menu, or click the plus icon at the bottom of your Xfire client.

Enter what information you want to search with, and hit the Search button. If you find the friend you are looking for, select their name from the lower list, and click "Send". You can also view their profile to confirm it's the correct person.

Any friend invite must be accepted. If it is, the two friends will appear on each others' lists. If it is declined, neither will appear on the other's friends list. If you don't wish to hear from someone again, you can block them with the Block button.

If no matching users are found, Xfire offers you the opportunity to send an automated email (with text you can edit) to your friend and invite them into Xfire. You can also invite them by clicking the "Invite Friend" button you see below anywhere on the website.

Once you've got some friends on your list, game icons will appear next to their name when they're playing, and their status will display the game. You can get more info about where they're playing by opening the Info Pane on the right edge of the Xfire client.

If you want to create custom groups to organize your friends, right click anywhere on your friends list, select "Add Custom Group...", and give the group a name. You can drag and drop friends into multiple groups, and remove them from a group by pressing delete.
