Xfire Release 1.107 Beta
2009-04-08 11:09 AM PDT
It's time for another Xfire release! A new beta version of Xfire is now available.
Download Xfire Beta 1.107b now
Exit Xfire. Copy 107b.exe to your Xfire data installation directory (usually c:\Program Files\Xfire\ on XP and c:\ProgramData\Xfire on Vista) and run it to update your Xfire. If you don't know how to do this, then you probably should not be attempting to beta test Xfire.
Please restrict discussion of the beta to this blog thread. This is to help us track your feedback. We are interested in your experiences with the new beta, specifically anything that goes horribly wrong. Thanks for your help!

- Xfire In-Game has a brand new interface.

The new interface really needs some polishing. As it is now, I would much rather use the familiar XIG 2.0.
Some of the things:
Some of the things:
- The Edit mode is not good way. In my opinion you should be able to move and resize all the elements you have open without needing to activate the Edit mode. Mostly I am referring to FPS and Clock elements, those get hidden when the in-game is open and not in edit mode.
- Resizing elements in edit mode is pain, the handle in lower right corner is way too small, especially since the mouse cursor does not give any kind of hint that you can resize from there. Also when you are not adjusting opacity or size, the elements have solid gray background color; I found it nicer when they were as rendered all the time.
- I don't see much use for the hotkey for "Chat Window" and I think it is misleading. Sure you can use it to open the chat while playing, but pressing it again just closes the chat window but leaves the Xfire In-Game mode active.
- The "task bar" is a bit useless as of now, are there any plans to make it a bit more usable in future?

Text is way too large. We aren't playing on consoles you know..

Yeah, the clock and FPS font size was unusually big by default.
Also the FPS counter in the "task bar" didn't fit when it showed 100 or more.

Basically everything the others have said...
I think the Edit mode is kind of unnecessary. It's nice to have the windows in a menu and on the task bar, but why can't I resize and snap them just like that and have to go into another mode?
Cursor should change to indicate when resizing is possible. You should also be able to resize windows at the sides, and not just at the corners. The corner arrows should be a bit bigger, and only in 1 corner. When the cursor will change it'll be a good enough indication for users.
Clicking the Edit Mode button should take you out of it. The Xfire logo doesn't even look like a button.
You should be able to move icons on the taskbar too. And I'd like an option to close the overlay completely if I close the Chat window. Old habits die fast.

I have to agree with the others. But then, we dont know what the plans are for the future. The record video button and screenshot button are kinda useless, as they will show the xfire interface in the beginning of the video, and only make a screenshot of the interface...
Right now i dont see the use fo the taskbar that much, maybe to switch between chat windows, but the way it was before was working fine.
Also i am predicting ppl losing their xfire ingame chat window, as it does ony show the taskbar and i didnt even notice it in the beginning. Scrolllock X wont show the default window, only way to egt it back after minimising it is the button in bottom right.
Srry, but not my favourite update :-/

I really like the new XIG here! text was a bit large to start but it's very customizable and I love that! It's a lot faster for me too rather than using the old XIG.
I agree with GODJonez about the size handles though. Could be a bit bigger other than that keep rolling out the good stuff!
EDIT: Just noticed that the "settings" are only for the microphone. If you aren't going to change it, consider using a microphone there?

2, the font size for FPS and Time are HUGE, and completely unnecessary. I liked being able to have the FPS on the screen, but minimal, so its not in the way. I don't need to see the word FPS in that big of a font, if I know what it means.
Edit: I didn't realize that you can resize the items. Make the grabby thing bigger (more visible).
