Xfire Release 1.106 Beta
2009-03-18 3:01 PM PDT
It's time for another Xfire release! A new beta version of Xfire is available for testing.

Download Xfire Beta 1.106a now

Exit Xfire. Copy 106a.exe to your Xfire data installation directory (usually c:\Program Files\Xfire\ on XP and c:\ProgramData\Xfire on Vista) and run it to update your Xfire. If you don't know how to do this, then you probably should not be attempting to beta test Xfire.

  • XIG Browser enabled for all XIG 2.0 games.
  • Made change to allow user select of Audio Devices on Windows Vista
  • Transparent changes made to Friend structure for upcoming improvements.
  • Transparent changes made to XIG for upcoming improvements.

We have been making some changes to Friends and XIG that should be transparent to you. It would be great if you could hit these areas hard and report anything that doesn't function as it did before.

Please restrict discussion of the beta to this blog thread. This is to help us track your feedback. We are interested in your experiences with the new beta, specifically anything that goes horribly wrong. Thanks for your help!

Is it normal that in the Help > About section it still says version 105? I can now select audio devices in Vista like I could a few versions ago, so I think it was updated successfully.

Yeah, that's normal. The version number does not change so that Xfire still sees it is an old version when the final release is pushed out, causing Xfire to update from beta to the real version.

Right, that makes sense.

Alright well the broadcasting works great now! You seem to have gotten rid of a lot of the terrible lag which was associated with broadcasting before too. Very nice!

Thanks Xfire and Dyyno!

Broadcasting FINALLY works. Really happy about this.
Played a bit with XIG and didn't find anything out of the ordinary. If I spot anything I'll report back.

thanks for letting us select devices in vista, but the same old problem is still there...

it uses your default recording device no matter what you select in the broadcas options(ruining in game voice chat if you want to broadcast at the same time)so its pretty much useless, but at least we can actually get audio now.

It would be a nice thing to disable sound being broadcasted or to mute the sound recording from in a game. As sometimes i am on TS or use ingame voice and sometimes i dont. If we could decide to mute the sound being broadcasted at any given moment we dont have to leave the game to change that option every single time when we wana broadcast something while talking to somoene.

The .exe file just says "Xfire.exe not found" it's in the same folder. Pretty sure it's because I'm using Vista x64. You guys really should get some more support for that.

XanKage, did you miss the part on the instructions where it said the file should be put to C:\ProgramData\Xfire when on Vista? Sounds like you put it into Program Files instead.
