Xfire Release 1.105 Beta
2009-02-24 8:29 PM PST
It's time for another Xfire release! A new beta version of Xfire is available for testing.
Download Xfire Beta 1.105a now
Exit Xfire. Copy 105a.exe to your Xfire data installation directory (usually c:\Program Files\Xfire\ on XP and c:\ProgramData\Xfire on Vista) and run it to update your Xfire. If you don't know how to do this, then you probably should not be attempting to beta test Xfire.
Please restrict discussion of the beta to this blog thread. This is to help us track your feedback. We are interested in your experiences with the new beta, specifically anything that goes horribly wrong. Thanks for your help!

- Changes being made under the surface to Xfire, please test all normal functionality
- Improvements to Quicktime in XIGB
- Fixed Source game server filters
- Fixed issue with Dyyno broadcast displaying an upside down stream
- Changed the “Classic” sound pack to behave as it did prior to 1.104.

I just did a surface test, but I think you didn't tackle the sound problem right.
I'd like the new sounds, but with the sounds playing even when the windows is focused. There are multiple on/off options in the sound settings already. Why couldn't you just add a new one there for this?
Oh, and I'm still getting "Bandwidth estimation failed" errors while broadcasting. Those should be fixed after everyone upgrades their Xfire, right?

When attempt to update to 1.105, the Xfire version still says 1.104 under the help, even though the patch installation to 1.105 seems to have been successful

poki3: Sounds - We reverted the "Classic" sound pack to behave as it did before based on complaints. This was the only good option that could make it into 1.105.
Also, because of feedback we are taking a better look at what to do for sounds in a future release (hopefully 106 or 107). We could have left the sounds as they were in 104 until we put in a "proper" fix but we felt it would be nice to at least revert the "classic" sound pack back until we can get in the redesigned version. Have some faith.
Dyyno - The "Bandwidth estimation failed" while broadcasting from what I understand should be ok now. Dyyno did rolling restarts of their servers yesterday which should have cleared this issue up. Is it still occurring today?
co2noss: Is that with the "Classic" sound pack or "Default"?
ssoulle1989: The version number doesn't update during a beta. It will update as soon as the 1.105 release is live on Monday. An easy way to verify that you are on the beta is by the build number under Help > About. Your build number should read 35980.

Sounds - Good to know that this isn't your final take on that. I was afraid that you would just stop at this, but if you're saying you're going to work on it more, then it's fine. PS: How about also adding a "Send message" sound for the default pack in the future? ^^;
Dyyno - Check it just now. Still getting the BEF of death error. It was like this ever since 1.104 came out. Even with the 1.104 hotfix.
onesoul posted in the "Xfire 1.104 - Fix for latency issue with Live Broadcast." thread that "The users that still have build 35771 are causing broadcasting stability problems." That's why I hope that after this update goes live everything fill fix itself. (though he also wrote that "Build 35798 improves broadcasting, but will still fails for users with less than 248Kbps sustained upload bandwidth." and that bothers me -_-)

raincrow: yeah just saw that. I had default on. Would be nice if it was for both.
