Xfire Release 1.101 Beta
2008-11-17 10:42 AM PST
It's time for another Xfire release! A new beta version of Xfire is available for testing.
Download Xfire Beta 1.101b now
Exit Xfire. Copy 101b.exe to your Xfire data installation directory (usually c:\Program Files\Xfire\ on XP and c:\ProgramData\Xfire on Vista) and run it to update your Xfire. If you don't know how to do this, then you probably should not be attempting to beta test Xfire.
If you play Guild Wars, please try out the in-game web search.
Please restrict discussion of the beta to this blog thread. This is to help us track your feedback. We are interested in your experiences with the new beta, specifically anything that goes horribly wrong. Thanks for your help!

Wow, the search is pretty nice. I'm posting this from ingame now
Well, the search i didnt really test much yet, but i love how we can browse internet pages from in the game.
Everything seems to work nicely, even youtube video's.
Would be cool if you could click links from the chat window to open in that browser. And a blinking cursor would be usefull i notice now while typing this post. I cant see where the cursor is in the chat
Oh, and the textfield doesn't slide down i notice now
And this browser doesnt support xfire-live-video plugin, would be ncie to be able to have that working also, as it is part of xfire nowadays.
But furthermore it seems to be working really nice.
Example for the ppl who dont know what im talking about:
Been testing it a little and there are a few things that are bugging. Some might be able to be fixed by you, some dont, i dono:
1. When watching a webpage with sound playing, and you close the browser, the sound keeps playing through the game. (close through the X in top right, also with scroll-lock X)
2. When closing the browser, you can only get it back when you enter a new search term. A button or shortcut to open browser would be nice.
3. Can't click on a link in ingame chat to open it in ingame browser.
4. Xfire-Live-Broadcasts dont play in the browser. Neitehr does Mediaplayer content. I would love to be able to watch the webcam of my favourite radio-station ingame...
5. Firewall keeps asking if i want to allow the game again (once for every game though).
I will extend this list when i find more.

Great job, the in-game browser works nicely. Too bad it uses IE engine and has all the problems it has

I don't have Guild Wars so I modified xfire_games.ini with browser support for a bunch of my favorite games. So far I've only tested with BF1942 and it works fine. It's nice to see cool and useful features like this.
Anyway on to business...
Here are the problems I've noticed (excluding issues already reported):
1. The mouse and browser gets uncomfortably laggy when the browser is expanded to a generally usable size. The game, while the FPS drops as would be expected, maintains a playable frame rate.
2. Youtube doesn't work, it plays audio but no video or interface. Xfire Video does work, but very laggy. Xfire Live Video does not work, as reported, and seems to be trying to access the plugin download URL, probably because I don't have the plugin installed for IE.
Some suggestions:
1. Use a better browser engine. Albeit anything is better than IE. WebKit (Chrome and Safari) or Gecko (Firefox) are probably the two best options. Maybe detect the OS default browser and use its engine.
2. Tabs, bookmarks, and/or URL history/auto-complete to make browsing multiple sites easier.

@Pilot 52
Make sure youtube works in your internet explorer. As for me it works just fine.

Tried updating, but the update gave me the "Xfire.exe not found;"
I have checked and the exe is there (obviously).
I closed Xfire, didnt help either.
Something weird:
When i execute the updater i have to get 2confirmation windows.
