Xfire Beta Program
2007-05-22 6:26 PM PDT
We are starting a new beta program to test out new versions of Xfire before they are released. The first beta is starting now and will be live until roughly Thursday, 5/24, at 14:00 Pacific Time.

Download Xfire Beta 1.76a now (beta over, link removed)

Copy 76a.exe to your Xfire installation directory and run it to update your Xfire. If you don't know how to do this, then you probably should not be attempting to beta test Xfire.

Please restrict discussion of the beta to this blog thread. This is to help us track your feedback. We are interested in your experiences with the new beta, specifically anything that goes horribly wrong. Thanks for your help!

First impressions:

The first run (from Opera transfers) of the installer ended at "Xfire not found" error message. The second run from explorer window made it upgrade successful.

Is the About dialog supposed to say
QuoteVersion 1.75 Build 26421

And the Xfire.exe still has its internal version number as 1.00.0000.13133.

Nothing else to report yet.

Thanks for the beta program!

The beta releases, by design, will show the old version number (in this case 75). This is so that all beta users will be upgraded when we do the real release, especially if we have to do multiple betas.

I had the same problem, but with Firefox. Didn't work from the transfers but did from explorer window.

What exactly are we looking for though?

The updater worked fine and I haven't run into any stability problems. Would help if I knew the changes so I could take a closer look at things but otherwise things are running as they always have.

The main changes include the screenshots in the infoview and a feature with clans that won't work until we update the servers .

The main reason for the beta test is to try to find all the weird issues that our testers can't find. We've tried to test the new features very well; what we want you guys to look for is any weird behavior that we might not catch.

And I thought that I just never noticed the screenshots thing. I rarely look at people's Infoview when they aren't in a game.

The screenshots in infoview works for me...

The screenshots do not always show. It appears that every time the user changes status, the infoview gets reloaded (being a new html document that is understandable) and sometimes the screenshots are not shown, even the whole Screenshots heading is missing.

Is that feature done using AJAX and the screenshots are not shown if the request times out?

Other than that it has been working without any problems for me for now, both directly connected and through my special program. One thing I noticed that it was not using P2P messaging even though my NAT Type was reported as Full Cone (Xfire type 1).

I did not have possibility to test it with multiple people, though, so it could have been a failed nat check on that other user's end.

Hey,
XIG doesn't work for Diablo2 anymore in the beta. 1.75 works fine in 2D and 3D.
Cheers,
Crisp

I'll take that back. It works like a charm.

Hey GODJonez,
The users infoview requests screenshots via an AJAX call. The screenshots section is hidden until it gets a valid AJAX response. A timeout or error will cause the section to remain hidden. An increase in the timeout value may fix these issues. Thanks for the feedback.
