Q&A corner

Edrien (he writes his name in caps, clearly compensates something) asks: "why are you gunning?"
Im not gunning, Im pistolling. There is a clear difference. Gunning is done with both arms, while pistolling is done with your left arm. Dont try it in any other way, you can hurt youself.

krzysio writes "I can understand shield, but gun?"
The fact that you understand shield is a good start. Guns work in similar way, the only difference is that you should hold ability button for 1-2 seconds and then release it. Check wikipedia if you want to know how guns work in real life.

YouTube

I actually have my own channel on YouTube. I rarely check it, so you will be unable to comment or rate any of my videos. I also never did any montages or voice comments (but I plan to do it someday). Also Im too lazy to constantly record my games and choose the best, so mostly it was like "ok, today Im going to record 2-3 matches and upload the one I like". This has its good side, you can get the real impression about my playstile. Anyway, if you interested then have a look http://www.youtube.com/user/4ealex

Abilities controversity
2012-08-01 10:14 AM PDT
I already made a quick blog entry on this a few months ago. But I feel like it is still in need for some reiteration.
The biggest change in ACR from ACB was to "promote stealth" on hunters part. Hence approach meter (commonly and incorrectly known as RDM, reversed detection meter) and contected kills were born. They also buffed defense extremely high by making stuns faster, improving stuns range and aim, enabling players to activate certain abilities like smoke or mute before finishing current action, making streaks count stuns and combining boost and reset cooldowns into one loss streak. Latest patch also effectively removes any smoke bomb delay other than lag while also makes it affect even those who climbed 2m above you (yea, sure, now smoke can make you cough by going through pores in your legs straight to your lungs).
What happened in reality is that they promoted agressive defense. Targets are no longer afraid of pursuers, they see opportunity to score on stuns. This especially affects team modes because other team members are told by game itself how their pursuers will look like (unless they will use disguise of course).
Sure, there is still a lot of ways to get silent/incognito/hidden bonuses in those matches. Already mentioned disguise, sometimes firecrackers or knifes, decoys... roofing... But most people will look no futher than the most ridiculously overpowered ability, which is our beloved smoke bomb. Did you ever hear a term like offensive tripwire? I bet no despite tripwire being mostly defensive ability can be used for both kills and stuns. Its because tripwire isnt overpowered while smoke bomb is. The term OSB is widely known and used. It was actually born in ACB times when OSB was used very rarely to get extra points from kills (hidden, focus). It still serves this purpose very well (it can give more points than poison combined with much lower cooldown time and absence of risk for poisoned target to be killed by some jerk in your team). But now also used a lot to make any...

Beggars can't be choosers

Apart from cheating, boosting, teamplaying in FFA and other obviously dishonest ways there is also another thing in almost every game. Some sort of code of conduit about using or not game features originally intended to exist by developers in said game. In Assassins Creed multiplayer this goes mainly to certain abilities and some play styles. Gun, using smoke bomb or mute offensively, teleportation in AA, knifes+smoke in Assassinate, running from pursuers all the time, running TO pursuers all the time, etc. Many players don't like one or another. Sometimes to the point of taking this as personal offense. Refusing to play with "sinners", calling them idiots or worse.
But this is just a game! Take it easy. Any game is designed to be an entartainment. Not your full-time job or whatever. Everyone is free to play it in their own way. Anything to have fun and (preferably) win. Of course there is a limit to this, like using unintended features (cheats, exploits, etc) or screwing your own team. If you feel like screwing - it's perfectly fine, but go play solo modes then.
PS. Yes, I follow some rules like "no gun" when playing against players in my friend list. Because they are getting upset if I don't. But other than that I'm free to use anything I deem worthy at the moment.

My take on boosting
2012-04-23 1:55 AM PDT
Okay, so recently boosting menace literally struck AC Revelations multiplayer. Previosly it was mostly restricted to FFA Assassinate teamplaying, but now there is constant stun score boosting in team modes as well. And because of that I decided to write down what I think about all this nonsense.

First of all. I dont give a shit about scores. Seriously, people, why do you even post score screenshots? It's especially funny to see "great records" with easy to spot AFK players in same session. And now why I don't care about leaderboards:
1. Boosters. Pretty obvious, almost all top scores in most modes are boosted.
2. Luck. Even "legit" scores do not bear much meaning, most of them are set by abusing newbies. Something I really dislike. I don't see lobbies full of 10-20 level players as good oportunity to break Guinness record, I see them as good oportunity to have fun. By being polite to this players and use something different, like playing with default sets. And IMO really low level players tend to play more stealthy than most players with 2-digit prestige numbers, especially in modes like Assassinate. I see level 20-49 players consisting mostly of crazy monkeys as higher ranked players' fault.
3. Top score is a very bad way to measure skill. Because of uneven skill of players you play with. There is better alternatives, like often used in RTS games in some way or another Elo rating. Elo can't be even boosted, at least so easily. But it's just not there.

So what boosters do essentially? They waste their time to do boring repetitive task to gain nothing. Nothing but shame really. It's obvious even to complete idiot that you can't get 20k in Escort legally. I don't check top scores for modes more often than once in a month. And even this I do just to see a more recent list of boosters. But then there is also friends ladder and friend points. Ridiculous system since it's based on same top score crap. Yes, currenly I'm overall number 1 in mine. Not that I'm really that great in any...
