Well, well. Perhaps not ALL boys on Xfire are girls, after all.
Sure, The Sims 3 improved a little bit more this week, but on the other hand, Prototype, also appeared on the charts. And let me tell you something. This is no girly-girl game. Just listen to these snippets from the description on Wikipedia.
A shape shifting bad-ass guy trying to stop (or whatever he is doing) some military shit going on in New York City? That's some seriously manly stuff. Like, hair on your chest manly. Or like, baseball and beer manly. It's even so manly that I no longer consider Xfire to be lost to the rainbow side of humanity.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, no. You can be queer if you want to, as long as my games stay manly.
As you can see, most of the changes happening on the charts is directly related to the success of Prototype and The Sims 3, but Team Fortress 2 is dropping a bit too much to be caused just by that. The game is obviously suffering from the good ol' "Oooh, a shiny new feature, let's play the game all the time for two weeks and then quit"-way of gaming. But, it goes to show that there are people out there seriously interested in playing TF2, if there are improvements made.
Another thing definitely worth noting is that we no longer have Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning with us on the charts. Which I believe is the first time since the game was released. I'm not quite sure what you guys think about the future of the game, but please share your thoughts!
Tomorrow I'm heading to check out the job I'll be doing for summer, so I have a couple of hours of riding a train, which I guess can be enjoyable.
Oh, please remember to add the Xfire Twitter account if you use twitter, for all the latest updates!
@|EV|mrdougan (mrdougan): EX-fire? Are you saying I'm fired?
@(。◕‿‿◕。) (emsgal): It can't possibly be all girl power, since Xfire actually has a fairly low percentage of girls, as compared to guys. At the very least, some guys has to be involved!
sims 3 has nothing on prototype-which is an extremely taxing on the system, it lags pretty hard for me with0out a broadcast going, so that explains that. Also you've got to consider not everyone has xFire, if you pulled some hours off of steam for tf2, prototype, CSS, EVE, etc. we'd see tf2 doing better as well as prototype. I will point out that CSS, a game that's lacking in amazing graphics in comparison to what the half-life 2 engine is capable of, is unshaken by the Sims 3, the latest chapter (with all new features) in an ingenious series.
Sorry but Prototype is not my kind of game neither is Sims3. But I am not supprised if I see that Sims3 Will be on the top 5 soon. And see Prototype drop like a rock. That game seems to be like a FPS on stroids and lack of content. Adrenalin rush for a week or two then die.
Happy that 4 of my games are on the chart though. Silkroad, Guild Wars, World of Warcraft and Lord of The Rings Online
And I am not supprised that Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is of the chart. Is a really nice game for the fans of the Warhammer universe. And I played the closed beta and about 6 month in the relase. The game did not deliver the content I expected to see. Sure there been loads of updates and content added. But the PvP and RvR is not enough for my capped toon. I want more PvE content. Enough rambling from me now.
Hey uh, not for nothing, but: I can see this is a laid back blog thing, no problem, I suggest that attitude to most companies...
but don't you think calling queer things un-manly is a bit rude, if not archaic? Gay guys haven't -all- been girly for quite some time now and the manly ones may be just a bit offended.
I agree with those saying Prototype will drop, any game lacking multiplayer won't last long, I guess you can tell how long it'll last by the replayability of the singleplayer. Then there's the fact that most people stop playing a game after they've finished it regardless of whether there's a point to try again or not.
@яadical νael (vaelvictus): Yeah, it is indeed a bit rude, and I actually know quite a few gay people who aren't the least bit unmanly. But, the idea of this post was to get a debate going on the existence of "girly" games as opposed to "manly" games, and I felt the need to be a bit provocative (as I often am in this blog). If someone is seriously offended though, it wasn't my plan
@XG cyclone`[superslut] (cyclone473): Yes, games that lack a replay value, or something to keep the game being played, like a well built multiplayer feature, has a pretty short lifespan on our charts.
Ibim (ibim): Good comment! Lord of the Rings Online is actually one of the games that I'm a bit surprised to see that we still have here. If I'm not mistaken, I predicted it would drop out a good couple of months ago. But the expansion certainly did well, and seems to have improved the userbase quite considerably. Perhaps it's even time to go check it out again, it's a very well built world with great lore. Perhaps even the best lore.
@Defiance (kiragon): 25 hours? Keep going, and the game might reach top 5, as Ibim says.
@[SwO] ProjectMayhem (oakpack4): Indeed, the fact that not all gamers use Xfire has to be considered (we want them to, though!), and perhaps steam users are especially bad at using our client, but the charts are still very interesting in general gaming terms, and I think they are pretty representative.
@(。◕‿‿◕。) (emsgal): It can't possibly be all girl power, since Xfire actually has a fairly low percentage of girls, as compared to guys. At the very least, some guys has to be involved!
