Page Executive & System Cache Boost
2010-09-21 11:02 PM PDT
Disable Paging Executive
This will prevent pages sections from RAM going to the hard drive. If you have a large amount of RAM at least 256Mb (I suggest 512) you might want to keep the data in your RAM to improve your performance considerably due to reduced amount of hard drive swappage. The entry that you will want to modify is called DisablePagingExecutive. Changing this from 0 to 1 will keep the data in your RAM.

"DisablePagingExecutive"=dword:00000001

System Cache Boost
The XP kernel can be loaded into your RAM with a simple registry edit. This can greatly improve performance since the NT Kernel will always be in your RAM. With this edit you will allocate roughly 4Mb of your RAM for the kernel. Sometimes more RAM is used but most of the time it is only 4Mb. The entry that you will need to find is called LargeSystemCache and you'll need to change this from 0 to 1 in order to enable this.

"LargeSystemCache"=dword:00000001

PnkBstrB.exe Fix!
2010-08-28 12:47 PM PDT
After about 3 weeks of reinstalling Windows 7, tweaking, untweaking, I have found out what no one else knows. There is a service that will prevent PnkBstrB.exe not to start with your games or display in your services list correctly.

I have asked evenbalance several times what processes does their software rely on and several times they told me it doesn't rely on anything and they gave me the standard reinstall PB fix suggestion that failed to solve the problem.

The actual problem is getting kicked repeatedly immediately after joining due to PnkBstrB.exe not initializing. You have to rejoin a few times before PnkBstrB.exe actually starts working. This fix is for when none of the other stuff suggested on PBBans site works.

Check your services and be sure that the process Application Experience Startup Type is set to Automatic. This will fix your issues with PnkBstrB.exe failing to initialize. Majority of the time it is but I have found on this forum and others people like turning off services in the background that are pointless. That's awesome. I do it too but no one has been able to connect the dots yet!

Enjoy not getting kicked anymore!

My Guide To Torrenting!
2010-02-22 7:00 PM PST
•¬ Choose a torrent client. . .

There are several out there. In my opinion there are really only two to choose from. Vuze and Utorrent. You can get Vuze from http://azureus.sourceforge.net/ and you can get Utorrent from http://www.utorrent.com/. It has been several years from the last time I used Vuze but as I recall, it had several options that can be confusing for the average person. I personally, highly recommend that everyone uses Utorrent. It's fast and easy and the settings are self explanatory.

•¬ Know where you are downloading from. . .

Don't download a torrent from a stupid site that is in Russian. There are only a few good sites out there.

thepiratebay.org
isohunt.com
mininova.org

I would say those are the best, safest, fastest torrent sites out there.

You also have private sites. I personally have never had the need for one other than Demonoid.
Demonoid.com is amazing. However, you need to either A) know someone who can get you a key, or B) check the site regularly for their open registration days. Some other sites out there want you to pay and upload constantly. DO NOT DO IT. It's a scam.

•¬ Know what you're downloading. . .

Download torrents that are active. Use the search and the filters and set it to order by the number of seeders. Look at the top three. One, if not all, will be alright to download. Not so sure? Check the comments. See if people are giving the torrent negative or positive reviews. Also, one of the great things about Utorrent is choosing what you are downloading from a torrent. For example, before the torrent actually starts downloading the files, you have the option to see what is also coming along with the file you are downloading. Do you really need those tracker files that the website throws in there, the sample video of the movie, or the .nfo files? No, well sometimes the .nfo files but majority of the time, no. Uncheck that stuff so that you can enjoy whatever you want to watch, play, or listen to faster.

There is always an exception....

New Monitor
2010-02-18 2:45 PM PST
I got a new monitor today from Newegg.com. It is the Asus VW246H. Absolutely fantastic.

Everything about this monitor is perfect. 24 inches of yesness. The monitor shipped with no dead pixels and is 10x better than my old 24 inch.

The only problem I have this this monitor is how short it is. Sadly, the stand isn't adjustable.

If you need a new monitor that is cheap and has great value, get this one!

Steam Sucks!
2010-01-18 10:46 AM PST
I hate Steam with the passion. It isn't as if it lags my computer. It is just simply the fact that games require it such as games like MW2 and the new up coming AvP. I was so looking forward to AvP, too. I just cannot use Steam again after I used it for MW2. It is just quite possibly the worst gamer tool program out there. Xfire beats it hands down. Hell even the GameSpy client did a better job than Steam. Here are a few small issues that I had with Steam:

- By default, it will spam you with ads until you uncheck something in the menu.
- Players stats are horrible. Completely inaccurate.
- When someone invites you and you click the popup, it brings up your friends list. What it should do is bring up the chat box so you can click the link to join the game.
- The clan system and organization on it is incredibly lousy. Very hard to navigate unlike Xfire.
- Every game company is forcing you to use it now days.
- It's fuck ugly.

Realism in Games
2009-12-16 3:36 PM PST
GTFO!

These are games we are playing! They aren't meant to be real. They didn't call UT2k4 Real Tournament 2004 for a reason. 99% of the games that all of the other games are based on, Blood, Duke Nukem, Haven, so on, have a 0% realism factor.

The people who play realism mods in games are older and generally slower and cannot keep up with us youngsters anymore. Disagree? I challenge anyone to a Quake or UT match then who regularly plays a realism mod. I would put money on it that they wouldn't win and that they would be annihilated.

There is not a single game out there that is realistic. Why would there be? No one would play it! Look at WoW, is that realistic? Fuck no. But there are 1,000,000 people playing it.

You want realism go join the Army. I am done with your realism bullshit.

7 Ways to Lower your Ping!
2009-12-07 7:46 AM PST
1) Tweak your game settings. By adjusting your maxpackets and snaps your hit registry will go up and your ping will go down. Also, be realistic with what your system can handle. Don't put a FPS's max settings on if your computer is only able to run it at 30 fps. You want something around 125 in any game. This can also contribute to lag.

2) Turn off your firewalls. Firewalls are not meant for gaming. They will slow you down and cause extra latency.

3) Uninstall that antivirus. Refer to previous blogs, but to sum it all up, they are 100% pointless and cause lag.

4) Turn off services. Checkout www.blackviper.com and turn off all of those crappy services that aren't meant for the average gamer and you will never use. Some are doing things like eating up bandwidth and other system resources that are needed while gaming. Right click task bar> start task manager> How many processes do you have running in the background? I have 40 running right now. When I boot Windows I have 30. Things are running very smoothly.

5) There are several programs as gamers we use that have extra things in them, like ads seen in Xfire, that can be removed with a crack easily found with a Google search. These ads use extra resources and bandwidth. Take a few moments and see what you can do to each program you regularly use in the background while you are gaming to make it less of a resource hog.

6) Open your router. Once again refer back to my antivirus blog. Routers are really only good for one thing and that is if you need to hook up more than one computer. Open those ports and turn off that hardware firewall. If the ports are not open and the firewalls are turned on, you better believe that is adding to your ping. If you don't have two computers, remove the router factor and hook your modem directly to your PC.

7) Tweak general Windows settings. Why do you need Windows firewall to be on or Windows updates to be downloading while you are gaming? Turn that crap off. Really, there isn't a need to have the latest...

Camping and Defending
2009-11-28 6:39 PM PST
Hate to break it to you fellas. There is a difference. Please stop looking like an ass hat and learn it.

Camping is when you are in a spot that has no strategic value for your team and picking people off from a distance or as they come around a corner.

Defending is when you are in a spot that has a clear view or easy access to a target near by that you are protecting. For the record, the people that defend in CTF, they will do everything in their power to get the flag back that they let go.

People like me who are good defenders can literally just stand in one spot picking the same people off over and over as they come around a corner, while in full view of the flag, because they are pissed off and not focusing. We get trashed every time too. WE DO NOT CARE! We are the ones who will win the game with a 20/1 KD ratio and win it for the team.

I tell you what, I am just happy I am not playing against myself or people that have my skill level. I would be completely outraged 24/7 in game.

Even if people are camping, stop the QQ and let us have more pew pew. Campers are NOT hard to get rid of. You die once and then you come back, flash, and then finish with a knife. By complaining and typing out a slew of garbage, that makes you look completely noob, you are in fact hurting your team because while you are doing that QQing, you have one less man on the field for your team. Just stop the bitching and play.
