Runia’s Uber Experience:
Collecting Keys:
The event begins in Hell. Killing certain bosses will net you a special kind of key:
  • Key of Terror from Countess
  • Key of Hate from Summoner
  • Key of Destruction from Nihilithak

Multiple drops of 2 or 3 keys at a time are rare but possible
3 of these keys comprise a “keyset” and they open one portal to an “uber” area.
“Mini” Ubers
I call these portals opened with the minor keys “minis” as they are a necessity and just a prelude to the upcoming fun.
Each keyset opens a portal when you transmute them in the Horadric Cube in Act 5 Hell. The first portal generated is completely random. So if you make one portal in 3 games you have a chance to get the same portal. However if you make 3 portals in the same game, you are guaranteed they will be one of each.
The “mini” uber portals are:
Forgotten Sands:
This takes you to a desert scene looking like Act 2 Canyon of the Magi where you will find Uber Duriel. He is the easiest of the “mini” uber bosses to kill.
Most of the time he spawns by himself, but he is sometimes surrounded by those wonderful lightning enhanced scarabs which you are wise to dispatch prior to taking down Duriel. As a reward for killing Duri he drops Baal’s Eye, all red and squishy. Pop this into your stash and save it.

Uber Duriel
Furnace of Pain:
As you wind your way through a River of Flame setting you encounter Demon Tricksters shooting fire, Pit Lords who are immune to all but physical and our favourites, the Oblivion Knights who cast Iron Maiden so your damage is turned upon yourself. Scary for melee characters; deadly for mercs.
After cutting through the welcoming committee, you run into Uber Izual. As in Act 4 Hell, he has a lot of life, and pulls his teleport and Nova tricks on you. Teleport on him and wear him down. He provides you with Mephisto’s Brain. Store this with your eye.

Uber Izzy
Matron’s Den:
One of the portal’s in the game will be the “Matron’s Den”, full of nasty female minions like Vile Lancers and Archers, and Hell Witches who bombard you with curses.
Kill your way through the Forgotten Tower setting and you will eventually come upon Lilith, Andariel’s not so nice sister. She can hit hard so Life Tap is handy.
Best to pin her down and keep close to minimize her attacks. Once bested, she drops Diablo’s Horn, the last organ you need to complete your set.

LilithNow that you have a full organ set (worth 4-5 hrs in trade nl btw) you can put them in the cube and transmit them into a portal to…
UBER TRISTRAM!!

But wait, STOP!! Don’t try this at home kiddies. Uber Tristam is a nasty place to be, and unless you are prepared and set up the game correctly it can drop or kill very high level characters in short order. Best to trade those organ sets for hrs or give to a friend who knows what they’re doing to set up the game correctly.

There are two reasons for doing Uber Tristram:
HELLFIRE TORCH:
A unique large charm, called the Hellfire Torch, is the ultimate reward from this event. The charm, when identified give 3 to a class specific skill (spawned at random, not necessarily matching the class of the finder). In addition to the skills, the following mods:
Required Level: 75
25% Chance To Cast level 10 Firestorm* On Striking
+3 to random character class skills (varies)
+10-20 To All Atributes (varies)
All Resistances +10-20 (varies)
+8 to light radius
Level 30 Hydra (10 charges)
(Only Spawns In Patch 1.11 or later)

Hellfire Torch

However, the skill required to kill the Uber monsters is very high, and only certain character builds are recommended. Killing Uber Meph and claiming the Torch is a whole other story and is beyond the scope of this Blog…there are lots of Forums online recommending character builds to accomplish this feat.

A warning: attempting Uber Tristram in an unstabilized game or not using the correct characters can result in the game going out of control, perhaps dropping and resulting in loss of the portal your worked so hard to get. Even worse, you’ll probably be killed in short order by the Uber nasties.

However the second reason for doing Uber Tristram is to gain enhanced experience for a character much faster than you ever could any other way.

The experience blows away even high level Baal running. It is addicting waching your experience bar climb steadily, thrilling to hear the BAM of level after level obtained. This what I will explain today.

GUBERS:
This massive experience leveling is one of the reasons people go to all the trouble of searching for keys over and over in hell and collecting organs.

How it works:
When the game is set up correctly, one of the results is the “taunting” of Uber Mephisto, causing him to get very angry, target one player and spawn unlimited minions: returned, horror mages, burning dead mages and horror archers who can surround and take down even a high level character pretty fast if their resistances are not sufficient to withstand the elemental and physical assault.

They are fairly immune and hard to kill. It is the role of the guber of the hammerdin to dispatch these minions. He gets his hammers flying, and the minons disappear, however Meph keeps on spawning them.

The resulting killing spree creates massive experience, so massive it is considered a “glitch”. So this experience event came to be known as “glitch” uber, or guber for short.

Uber Tristram

In a guber game the other night two level 1 characters became level 88 in a matter of a couple hours. Most people use this to build or remake a character where they have all the gear and want to gain levels and skill points quickly to allocate all at once.

Some people consider this “cheating” however it is a D2 event and if you are fortunate enough to be invited to one, go, have fun, but also be sure to follow the “uber” etiquette, or you will not be invited back!!

Uber Tristram and GUber Etiquette:
1. Do not “crash” an uber party. Wait to be invited.

2. If you are lucky enough to be invited, DO EVERYTHING YOUR HOST SAYS, in the order he says, quickly and exactly. Not doing this could cause the game to get out of control very quickly and cause the loss of the game and uber experience opportunity for everyone!!

3. When you enter the uber game, wait to be invited to party. There are certain rules to partying that must be followed for a successful uber. If you are told to “rejoin” the game, do so quickly, again waiting to be asked to party.

Party quickly once invited. The important thing about the joining and party protocol is this:
The last person to join the game and join the party is the “target” of Mephisto’s anger. His minions will spawn all around the target. The target must be the one of the hammer paladins who are spinning Blessed Hammers in the game.

I have seen people who have joined and partied afterwards die a quick death when Meph’s horror mages and archers suddenly spawn all around them, usually killing them very quickly, especially if they are a low level character there to leech experience.

4. As the game wears on (and a well run uber game can go for hours!), Meph’s anger begins to build, and he will increase his minion spawn rate so they are coming fast and furious.

This will periodically (like every few minutes) cause the game to become unstable. Lag will become apparent (ie you're moving but nothing happening; messages you type are delayed in showing on the screen, etc).

One of the best indications of the lag is that the walls of the house will become invisible.
This means the game is unstable and prone to crash, causing party members to lose connection and be ejected from the game into a channel.

While the party members try to get back and party correctly to continue, Meph is madly spawing minions who are going out of control and taking over Uber Tristram.

Sometimes this is so bad that the guber event cannot continue. The party’s over, and the host will just clear Minions and kill Uber Meph to obtain the Torch. The party should leave in this case to make it easier for the host to kill. Each party member increases the minions’ power.

5. To avoid this situation, you will hear your host say “last one”, or "lw" (last wall). This is the signal for the necromancer who is casting bonewall (to anger Meph) to stop casting. All party members should leave the house near where the hdin is spinning and run south to the rock in the next screen.
The hammerdin and high level hosts will “clean up” the straggling minions then join you at the rock. Some people say go to town but this is not necessary if everyone acts properly. The high levels will join you at the rock you once they have “cleaned up” the area.
Everyone sits and waits a few minutes. Then the hdins will again take up their positions, signaling the necromancer to re-commence his bonewalling, respawing the minions and starting the experience leeching process all over.
The leechers can then enter the house and take up their position by the wall to watch the action. However, this is not really necessary, as you can gain the same experience by staying at the rock.

Uber Leeching
You can even go afk and come back to find yourself leveled (assuming the game doesn’t drop while you are away). Although the rock position is too quiet for me I like to be where the action is!

6. When you are asked to leave the game, leave immediately. This is for the reasons above. Thank your host and exit the game to allocate the new stat and experience points you have just received
