Dungeons: Is "random" better than "stati...

I would like to consider myself an avid RPG player. I own various systems and have dipped my finger in a lot of proverbial fantasy pie.
Growing up in the 80's and playing games through the 90's left me wanting a unique yet tailored gaming experience in the 2000's.
Then came along the invention we now know as the "Random" Dungeon. When I first discovered this element in games, my compass needle slowly began to shift towards random.
Perhaps it all boils down to the first time I played Everquest. I was running through a zone for the umpteenth time when all of a sudden two random NPCs were fighting each other. Unfortunately, there was no one else around to witness this battle of attrition. They never got each others health down to 50%.
Since then, it's been a goal of mine to "break" a game that has a lot of random elements. Now I know next to nothing when it comes to programing so I may just be wasting my time. But, I do prefer the idea that my experience is unique and it exits on some level of unpredictability.
Other games I recommend for "Random" dungeons are the .Hack games, Persona 3&4, and Hellgate. Happy gaming.
