Shootings in America: Crazed Youth?
2008-07-05 4:17 PM PDT
I don't think the shootings in America are the fault of the youth. Albeit, they have to be messed up in the head real bad to go that far.

It's the American Government's fault. If a person has a fist in one hand, and a gun in the other, and they're pissed, what do you think they'll use? The American government has made it far to easy for these youth to get the weapons they need!

American Gun control laws are to blame. The right to bear arms was created after the revolution, when attacks were common and the British might return. This is idiotic for the modern day! There is no reason a person should have a RIGHT to bear arms.

Now, you'll probably say: "But it's the fault of the kids for using them"
I'll tell you, that's bull. Yes, they did choose to use it. But with proper gun control, they wouldn't even have that option!

In Canada, we have far better gun laws, and look at our history! America has had at least 4 School shootings in the last 40 years! Canada has had only one! I think that says something.

So I say: The blood spilled is on the hands of anybody who stands idly by. Nothing gets done if it isn't done. Lobby for better gun control, and I can garuntee these incidents will slow down, if not stop.

Gun laws in Canada kinda blow. I'm a proud Canadian, but I know that I will never be "allowed" to own the weapons that I would really like to purchace. For example - I own a Lee Enfield and a few other bolt action rifles, but the really fun weapons such as semi autos, nah, I will never be allowed to own them. I see you're point bro, but I think that if these kids in the states (Or any other country for that matter) REALLY wanted to get their hands on a weapon, they could do so via illegal means. It sounds stupid, but it's possible. I lived in Toronto for 9 months, and I had more than one option to obtain a handgun illegaly (I was 16 at the time, and of course I refused.) If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns.

True, That's a very good point. But the fact remains that it would still be far more difficult to get these firearms with proper control. Why not substitute our system of youth with knives? (jking)
But I see your point. And who wouldn't want to have nice weapons, I would kill for an authentic Karabeiner 98k from the Wehrmacht.
(I believe Kar's are legal in canada)
but sadly, for those responsible enough to use the firearms properly, there's a lot of individuals who won't.

No, I dont think they are. I dont own one, but I have seen youtube videos of Canadians with Kar's (One even scoped) and I have a really good friend who owns a Kar98k. The only real problem would be finding one that didnt have it's interesting Nazi history stripped from it due to Russian or or Eastern Bloc capture, considering the Russians literally captured MILLONS of them, it is quite difficult to find ones which still have the Swastika on the muzzel and still come with the original cleaning tools.

Pity.... Oh well, even a ww2 era Kar would be nice. My favorite firearm, not that I've ever used one. I just have an obsession with the military history of the early 20th century, so I figure that would be a really neat thing to have hanging on the wall (w/o ammo of course and I'd have to look into the laws..). That or a Canadian Ross. Awful weapon (In the trenches of the First ww, Canadians would often drop their rosses a second a brit died next to them(To take the Lee Enfield))I could have gotten my Grandfather's medals.... if his kids' son hadn't stolen and sold them for drug money...

Oh I love Military history as well. The Lee Enfield I own is my Great Great grandfathers from WW1. It's official designation is the Lee Enfield Mk3*. And yes, the Ross Rifle was certianly not made for trench warfare, but they were deadly accuate, so much so they were Used as sniper rifles by Canada in WW2.

Yea, but a weapon jamming isn't nearly as deadly in a sniping role (unless counter-sniping)

FYI: A Victoria cross winnner of the first world war, Private Joseph Kaeble, repelled a german regiment from his trench single-handedly. He was in his hole with a machine gun, when a shell landed inside killing his mates. He was the sole survivor, and succumbed only after inflicting massive casualties on the germans and being wounded 7 times.

Ah yes, I remember reading about him in the book "True Canadian Heroes on the Battlefield" by Arthur Bishop (Billy Bishop's son). Truely a brave man. Have you heard of the book? It's really a great work of writing.

I don't believe so... I should try and find it.
Also, look for Matthew Cooper's "The German Army 1933 - 1945"

Sorry about my absence, been busy to say the least. I've actually seen that book at a libary somewhere, but I never got around to picking it up, maybe I should. You ever read "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" by William L. Shirer? Very long book, but also a must read if one wants to know pretty everything there is to know about the Nazis. Took me half the summer to finish it, but it was well worth it. Again, aploigize for my absence recently.

No problem, and I've got time. I'll try to find that one... I'm sure the public library can order it in....
