Land of the Dead : A Retrospect- Part 1

Sitting here thinking about the state our little game is in, I cant help but think about me starting to play this game & Being the father of this 'phenomena' known as The Fast Switch, I've come to realize just how detrimental my discovery & utilization of this exploit has been upon the on-line gaming community; having most to do with Deathmatch. So I'm going to put my whole experience; dealing with this game into text, over a few days....
There I was in 2005, 5 months after seeing the movie "Land of the Dead" in theaters when my best buddy Grim calls me up and tells me of an awesome zombie game based upon it. Two days, and 1.4Gb's of hard disk space later- I bust out some CD-R's & burn the game CD's (with the torrent inspired pirate hat & all) Disc one & two that would shape PC gaming for the rest of my life.
After beating the single player story line like a Boss (Cause of cheats xD) I discovered the mighty but minuscule online community. We had a bevy of maps like In_house, & the ever popular DM_Downtown. lol, Needless to say there was really nothing because the game wasn't really created to be an online blockbuster....
Together, Grim & I traversed the one major map that was user created at the time- & that was IN_Noldmultifinal. If it weren't for the high processor demand on the host server for the zombie A.I & the infinite item Iteration map glitch that caused you to be kicked from the server, we would have played endlessly; which would have resulted in our eventual dehydration or starvation & then death...
To my relief, the glitch caused most everyone but a precious one, to be kicked and thus the map restarted- yadda yadda.. & were still alive cause we took a break and ate some pizza.. xD... anyways...
More maps started to come out, & before the redirects- to download off the servers took bloody F*ckin forever & we used google to find the maps portals. Grim sent me the link to Undead Games, which was "THE SITE"...

Went to download new drivers for my Video card--- its now considered Legacy Equipment.... LOLS
Guess I picked the right parts for it all to function this long...

My god its been a while now that I think about it.. I've been so happy that the thing turns on every time that I've ignored the years going by.
Now we have quad core CPU's & 9Gb memory havin, 1000Mhz bus, Serial-ATA300 pumpin pc's...
Hell, I'm still hardcore with UDMA IDE, (yes i still call it that.. screw the new terminology) AGP Graphics, & a 500 Mhz bus..
I realize now that my situation is getting ridiculous when I bought my latest CPU upgrade at my local flea market...
YES I HAVE ENTERED THE HYPER-THREADING ERA!!!
(still single core tho... x_x)
I felt all 8D for about a month xD
I then got L4D and couldn't and still can't really see the hunters flying around, trees and shrubs are a nightmare, plus the zombies don't let me off cause my frame rate is BS.
Geez I would love a new PC, but damn its expensive. I really shouldn't be complaining lol, i just managed to get internet back two months ago.
But I can dream.... xD
