Techcrunch reports that the next Xbox Live update will allow users to interact with their friends’ friends , which is a nice social networking tool. Xfire has been doing that since launch, nearly 4 years ago. Games Industry has a story about Korean game developer NC Soft (Lineage, Guild Wars, Tabula Rasa) moving its focus away from the online games business, then denying it is abandoning said business. The only thing for sure here is that this whole story is unclear. It’s not really online related but still worth mentioning here: SCEA announced that PS3 sales numbers increased by 300% since November 2nd , when the 40BG version hit store shelves. It also seems like the PS3 beat the Wii last week in Japan. I don’t think that ever happened before. Gamasutra’s Ernest Adams has a story highlighting the best / most influential video games released each year since ’97 . Online games such as EverQuest, World of Warcraft, StarCraft, Call of Duty are making the list. Surprisingly enough, Counter-Strike isn’t despite its continuous impact on the online gaming world since 1999. Kotaku reports on more experts claiming that there’s no proven link between violence in games and violence in real life… and how some people keep claiming their personal opinion on how violent games badly influence gamers still should prevent Manhunt 2 from hitting store shelves in the UK. How can there even be a case? I’m speechless… After Valve implemented “Achievements” in Team Fortress 2, it looks like, according to Joystiq , Achievements will appear on older Valve games.
