Why spam wiki?
2009-06-21 2:22 PM PDT
What's the point of having spambots spamming a wiki site that has only one regular visitor, that visitor being a mean sysop that hands over permanent bans to spammers with a great delay of approximately 2 minutes after the spam message was posted?

Seriously now. Why?

Because the feedback loop isn't closed. The spammer doesn't know that they were banned. Nor does the spammer care, see that would require more time to investigate, time that is better spent spamming. These are people that profit from 0.01% of their "work". Unless you can raise the cost of using your wiki, they will continue to spam.

That happened to my wiki for a bit, and yes I am the only user. I stopped the spam by disallowing unregistered edits to 'Talk:Main Page' and locking the 'Index.php' article that they kept creating.
