Battlefield 2142 Patching 101
2010-09-21 5:54 PM PDT
1st) In Windows explorer(not internet explorer)Navigate to the default installation directory *C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts or 64 bit C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts*

I stopped you in the Electronic Arts folder because this is where you'll be working. Now with the EA folder selected on the left you should be viewing the contents of it on the right. i.e. your Battlefield 2142 folder.

2nd) Right click and hold and drag the Battlefield 2142 folder to an empty area on the right side of the screen and release it. Select Copy Here. It will make a copy of the Battlefield 2142 folder and append it with - Copy

That's it. Now when you patch, you'll be able to switch between 1.51 and 1.5 simply by either changing the folder names each time, or a better/smarter/easier way would be to have multiple shortcuts.

Peace,

more knifing
2010-08-13 6:27 PM PDT
Knifing in bf2142 kicks ass! It's one of the only games that the knife isn't melee for one, and the range of both movement, and style of attacks are very impressive. I think that they, ea/dice, took the bf2 engine and heavily modified the knife mechanics. Refined them and made them worlds better than knife combat in bf2. Or any other game for that matter.

So they did all that, then they took it a step further and added the ability to collect dogtags from victims. The developers must be knifers. So for them to do all that and not to change the scoring system is beyond me. I compare it to writing the best song ever written in the history of music, and having Tiny Tim sing it.

for those who are clueless...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90JCY0Eh1s4

Well, I want to discuss my feeling about how the game is being played, not so much by the newer players, but more so by the veteran knifers. It's ugly to watch so many players body camping. Is it really necessary? What do you stand to lose by letting somebody get back on their feet? Wouldn't be much of a boxing match if when a boxer got knocked down the other one jumped on top of him pummeling away. Currently there aren't any server rules anywhere that make it against the rules to do it, but you should have more pride than to carry on in such a way. =GW= members you should be ashamed of yourselves if you're body camping. I'm a huge believer in there is room for everything in the game, even body camping. There is a time and a place for everything. When it becomes necessary, situations when you're outnumbered, or when the player you're camping is too dangerous to allow back on their feet. Body camping some noob player is rude and plain unfriendly. When you're a member of a knife clan, if you're body camping other players it reflects poorly on your clan. Do not bring disrespect to =GW=

Swarming is another subject that really needs addressing. It's not necessary to swarm players. Is it done because individually you're all afraid but collectively you feel...

Battlefield 2142
2010-05-12 10:57 PM PDT
I've been playing Battlefield 2142 since the beta. Shortly after the game was released, I discovered how much fun can be had playing in the knife only servers. So I rented a server for 3 years. In that time I've met countless people and have managed to actually forge a few real good friendships from the experience. The draw of knife only servers is very strong and addictive. So much so that it had a negative impact of parts of my non e-life. For allowing that to happen I've nobody to blame but myself. When I stand back and weigh the good against the bad, I feel that I will come away from this in worse shape than I was when I arrived, but at the same time I'll be a bit wiser, and a better man because of it too. Three years plus is a long time. Simply saying 3 years doesn't really do it justice. People refer to time sometimes in "dog years". Meaning 1 year equates to 7 dog years. I think that there should be gaming years also. So in gaming years maybe 1 year equates to 2 gaming years? I'm not sure about the actual equation but I'm sure that it has seemed like a lot more than 3 years. Now I look at 2142 and it's like a ghost town, complete with the tumbling tumbleweeds. Barren and empty, filled with the ghosts of so many battles fought, everywhere you look. I like to join a knife match when I see one sometimes, but it's not the same anymore. I find myself now between games, with nothing to do. Battlefield Bad Company 2, while it may be a decent game, just hasn't got whatever it is that I'm wanting from a game. I'm starting to wonder if I will ever find a suitable replacement. Ever diligent I wait and watch from the shadows.

Cheating
2009-07-07 4:35 PM PDT
Cheating seems to be a growing fad lately. If you've grown so tired of a game that you want to cheat to make it "fun" again, then you should just move on. Or here is an idea, why don't all the players who want to use hacks, rent servers and disable punkbuster and just have as much "fun" as you all can stand. I already know the answer. Because without honest players for you all to take advantage of, it's just not very much fun now is it.

When you're playing a game where other players are trusting that you'll play by the rules, when you cheat, you've betrayed that trust. You lose all credibility, and get to carry around a ban once you've been caught. Not that it matters much, it's so sickeningly easy for banned players to return with the same alias, and besides it would appear that the majority of clean players don't seem to care anymore. Well I care, and I ask all of you to hold these players accountable, for not only have they lied, but they've betrayed your trust as well.

Trust in online gaming is extended to all players initially. Once you've proven yourself to be dishonest, you'll never be trusted again. There are no steps that a player can take to redeem themselves once trust is lost. In a situation where trust is paramount, taking a chance where you risk losing trust, to me, is unfathomable.

I choose not to cheat.
I challenge you to do the same.
