PlayStation Move Pre-Order Goodness
2010-09-10 10:29 AM PDT
I pre-ordered my PlayStation Move yesterday and I'm quite excited. I was planning on picking up Sports Champions with it, but I'm waiting for a price drop. Plus, Wii Resort

is still killer fun. No, instead I'm picking it up for NBA 2K11. I have no idea how the game is going to work, and I was planning on picking up 2K11 anyway (I pre-bought it instantly when I saw the Jordan challenges).

I've been hearing a lot of positive things about it, the controllers at least, so I'm hoping it's not going to be some hype. I don't really play my Wii as much anymore. I only have it for Nintendo exclusives. But I'm really hoping that Sony keeps up with this thing, while giving me the option to ignore the Move completely and play on the couch.

Demon's Souls needs to be patched with Move support as soon as possible too.

In other news, I'm almost done with God of War III. I'm playing on hard. And when I say almost done, I mean, I beat 2 bosses and I'm far from done. My wife turned off the console yesterday while I was reinstalling iTunes for her new iPod Touch (yes, the 4th generation) on my new hard drive. I'm the proud owner of 3TB of hard drive space. Funny thing is, 700 of those gigs are dedicated to Steam alone.

I still suck at StarCraft II.

And if you guys want to keep track of which games we're playing, head on over to our Wet Bandit Blog. Right now, I'm finishing up American McGee's Alice. Videos will all be in HD quality. I'll try to post some on here, too.

StarCraft II Review + Impressions
2010-08-05 9:22 PM PDT
It's here. After twelve long years, StarCraft II is finally here! And I'm here to give you the run-down of how things are in the world of StarCraft. Enjoy your stay!

I bought the collector's edition. I normally don't buy collector's editions, but I actually really respect Blizzard's games. They're pretty much perfect on release, and when you buy a Blizzard game, you know you're buying quality. It's like buying a Valve game. The packaging is pretty awesome. It's made of cardboard, but it's none of that flimsy cardboard that will get smashed if you put any pressure on it. It's sturdy. Inside this beautiful package, there's an art book, a comic book, the soundtrack, a DVD with the cinematic movies and behind the scenes, a 2GB USB thumb drive that is in the shape of some futuristic space dog tags (included on this is a copy of the original game and expansion pack), and of course, the main product, StarCraft II.

I've seen on NeoGaf a few people complaining about install time. Hours. And hours. I was installed and patched within 20 minutes or less. I was eating while it installed and when I went back over to check it. I'm not denying it could take that long, but it didn't happen to me. While installing, you do have to activate the product through Battle.net. Seriously, not that bad of DRM. I have actually heard that once it's activated on a computer, you can run in a "Guest" mode to play offline. I haven't tried this, but it should clear up some concern that people had about not being able to play their game when the servers are down, a concern I greatly share.

When you load up the game, you're greeted with a login screen for your Battle.net account. Create your profile name, and there you are. The menu. Single player? Multiplayer? First thing I did was mess around in the profile settings. I had to check out the collector's edition's avatars. Avatars are unlocked by doing certain things in the game, such as beat 5 multiplayer games with your choice of race. I picked the Terran Diablo avatar,...

Need Moar Minerals!! (StarCraft II Beta....
2010-05-05 11:04 PM PDT

"No country for Zerg rushing."

There's nothing more satisfying than watching a ton of roaches get squashed by a tank that's fired a shell right into it's ugly little face. This brutal scene of violence is what puts a smile on my face, at least. StarCraft II is right around the corner (July, for example), which means I can support Blizzard more than I already have.

I pre-ordered the (special edition) game at GameStop. Don't judge me! I could care less how they treat people. They had a good deal. Pre-order the game, get into the mutliplayer beta. Quit judging me! I have a couple of friends that are getting this with me so we can do team games. Our team name is "The Wet Bandits". We're a small clan of gaming idiots that have no idea what we're doing because we can't stick to one game for too long. But StarCraft II may hold our attention long enough.

I played my first game against a CPU. The only setting I had was "Very Easy". In a game like this, I expected this to be brutal. Basically, if you can't win against a Very Easy, you should quit playing and try another genre. The AI rushed me one time while I was goofing around with the controls. No worries. My massive amount of SCVs were there to drill their face open like a Big Daddy in Rapture. Built a few marines, walked to their base, game over. I win. Truly, very easy is for children with no arms.

I decided my skills were really amazing. I didn't know very easy was literally that. I took the fight online. This time, I lost. The next game? Lost. I finally had a teammate on, my best friend from Texas. Someone messed with Texas. We both lost. And again. Why? Well, I'm not any good whatsoever at StarCraft (I'm a slow, old man economic builder in RTS games). My friend is decent, but I'm really horrible. I've gained a lot of skills in the recent week, but I'm no where near as good as I'd like to be. Still, the ladders will be reset when we're out of beta. Thank goodness too because I'm about 10/25 right now.

As of this...

May the Month Be With You
2010-05-01 5:12 AM PDT
Finally, a real blog! This one is dedicated to one of the best months this year: May.

May is bringing us 3D Dot Game Hero, Red Dead Redemption, Lost Planet 2, Alan Wake, Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Backbreaker, and ModNation Racers. That's a whole lot of great releases. Sadly, I'm going to just pick and choose the games I'm getting this upcoming month since I need to focus a bit more on school, my incredible music, and finishing my games. If you're wondering which games I'm getting, just read the rest of this blog, stupid.

I've already bought this game. I'm just waiting on Amazon to ship it over. There's already been a few reviews, and basically, it amounts to this: if you love the original Zelda and the older RPGs from the NES era, you'll love this. The game has a lot of possibility as being a cult cl-ssic among gamers. You can create your own pixel character from scratch, making his look and his animations. You can even upload the creations, so expect a lot of cl*ssics reborn in the engine. Expect a review from this when I'm done.

If you haven't guessed by my adverts for a profile theme, I am dying to play this. I was excited about this before all the news about the multiplayer, but now I'm ecstatic. I didn't think May could come quick enough. If I can only hold out until the 19th, I'll be good to go. Most previews have all stated one thing in common: the game is fun. Ultimately, that's why I play games. Fun factor first, everything else after. I'm also a western fan. In the wild west, according to Hollywood films I've seen, you walk into town, have a few drinks, and start a-shootin'. With a massive co-op gang mode, I'm sure this will hold me over for the year.

If you own a Wii and don't plan on buying this game (even eventually), then shame on you. I will support Nintendo as long as they keep the adventure games comng and less of the cow milking bull they usually do. Super Mario Cook Off is not a fun idea. Anyway, the original was a blast, and probably one...

The Saboteur...done!
2010-01-02 5:14 PM PST
I must say, it's not game of the year stuff, but it's a satisfying game. If you don't want to be bogged down with heavy story (ie: Dragon Age: Origins which I'm still working on) and you like blowing ish up, this is the game for you! A lot of weird bugs, but I dunno. There was a certain charm about the game. Boy, I have a lot of reviews to work on. So, so many...

Dragon Age Origins...begins!
2009-11-28 3:50 PM PST
I broke down and bought Dragon Age Origins on PlayStation 3. I tried a copy from a friend who had it on PC. Now, I wanted it on PC, buuuut, I found a copy on PlayStation 3 for $40 at Sears. They had one copy left. For $40, I felt the game was worth it. I've played about 1 hour, and so far, I love it. I'm kinda shocked I really love it. However, I'm also in a great Fall dilema. I'm caught in the middle of a few games still, and this game is going to suck me into it's vast world and not let go. My wife decided to play World of WarCraft tonight while I good off an hour making Cain, my evil RPG villian I normally create. Hopefully, I'll find time to finish Demon's Soul and get that platinum on Borderlands (need to hit level 50 and I'm done...but I'm not really done with the game still!).

In other news, I finally got a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate as well. It's a nice improvement over Vista. I'm using the 64-bit (aka: more gaming goodness). I had one issue, and that was my very, very crappy network card (Belkin G MIMO *cough* USB). It would NOT install the drivers so luckily my PlayStation 3 and iPod fixed that issue. Nothing worst than installing an OS and forgetting to get some drivers first!

Lastly, sucks for Tiger Woods. I hate the PGA but I hate to hear he's hurt. Hope he recovers safely.

Anyway, shalom shabbos and have a good one!

Modern Warfare 2: Too far?
2009-10-30 12:50 PM PDT
There's a big stink about Call of Duty's airport terrorism and the question arises: have they gone too far?

No, says me. And I'll give my best answers of why in bullet form, because I don't want to write all day. One thing to point out is that there's been games with hostages in an airport where you can shoot the hostages, That's not the point of the hostages (in Call of Duty or in this game) but people have the option to shoot them and lose money. Counter-Strike, you can get maps in even the Twin Towers. Is that too far? Who are the people we're dealing with?

Terrorist. Yes, these guys aren't into the business of trading Pokemon cards and talking things out. These are bad guys. Ya know, the ones who are against peace. So having the option of being a terrorist in a video games means you have to do terrorizing things.

"But it's too close to home!". Yeah, so is fighting over in Iraq for some. It's the ol' outside of the USA, it's not bad to offend, but if they dare remind me of an event that happened, it's time to twist my panties up! The difference is some people can determine what is real (911) and what is fake (video games). I know someone that's died of cancer. I'm not going to be a baby and cry over a game or movie if they have someone in it die of cancer. It's the same thing. Let's quit being hypocrites for once and remember: it's not your right to not be offended. If you're offended, don't touch it. However, the adults in the room will gladly play this game (not on the PC though) and remember that it's all make believe. No matter how realistic we make games, it's 100% fake.

So here's my reasons:

-It's a game.

-This isn't new. Just new to Call of Duty.

-If you're a terrorist, you terrorize. You don't play Hello Kitty while being a terrorist.

-If you can be Nazis and kill Americans or Russians, then there's no difference.

-Nazism happened and effected generations of people. We don't sweep history under the rug so not to offend some people.

-You don't have to play...

Borderland: Play-By-Play Summary (Long)
2009-10-21 10:42 PM PDT
I heard about Borderlands in April of this year via PC Gamer. I don't think I even cared about it at first. So what? A cel-shaded FPS? Like the last one did that well (ie: XII). But when I actually read the preview, I became more and more interested. Not for it's slick new graphics. No, it was because it was a looting game, a treasure hunting game. It is what Hellgate: London should have been! So, now that I've had a while to play around, I'm going to go over my experience in full details.

I got my copy for the PlayStation 3. Anyone with a PS3 knows that you're going to have to install most any game you get. Luckily, I have a nice 500GB hardrive sitting in my machine, so there's no worry about space. Usually, though, an install on the PS3 means taking a good 5-10 minutes to read through the manual (Oh, wait. Games today don't have fancy things like manuals!). Instead, I managed to pour some iced tea and go back into the living room and the game was installed. The back of the box says you need 2.(?) GB of hardrive to install so I figured I'd play Mafia Wars on Facebook until it was done. Long story short, I had some tea and was in the menu.

The menu itself is pretty cool and shows off in-game graphics. However, the robot in the background is just hilarious. He runs around in the background and kicks dust all over the place, screaming random stuff. I love it. Coming from Brutal Legend though, it's not the best menu I've ever seen. Starting a single player match first, I wanted to look at the characters before I went into battle. The load time was very quick, giving there's hardly any loads at all in the game. There's a short cinematic with a bus driver, taking whomever you pick to the battlegrounds. While in the bus, you get to pick the character you want via a character select screen. Usually, in games like Diablo, I like the overall strongest character, such as the Barbarian. In this game, it would be the Bezerker, or tank. However, I wanted to play this game with a different mindset. A steal...
