CALL OF DUTY 2 & 4 CHAT ON XFIRE WITH TEAM TEK9
November 13th, Online.
For a unique chat session on Xfire, we've welcomed crow from Gotfrag to interview our guests from TEK9, the #1 CoD2 team in the world ranking, in front of a live Xfire audience.
crow: To get things started, why doesn't each of the TEK9 members introduce themselves to the audience?
tek9 Networks Davy: I'm Davy Sysmans from Belgium, currently studying Interactive Multimedia Design. Been playing the cod-series since cod 1.2 or so. I've been a part of Tek9 Networks Ltd. for almost 3 years now.
taurinebot: Hey I'm Alex and I live in the Netherlands. I'm 17 years old and I've been playing for Tek9 since October 2006.
TeK-9 Networks L-KiNG: I'm Daniel Luther from Germany , currently im trying to get my high school diploma. I'm 17 years old and im playing for tek9 since january 2007.
tek9|aydiiN: Hello, my name is Burak Aydin aka aydiiN, I was born and raised in Holland, I am 17 years old and still studying. I am playing cod2 for about 2 years now and I’ve played for tek9 for about 6 months
crow: You have been playing at the top level of European Call of Duty for some time now and that doesn't happen without hard work. Tell me about your typical day as a gamer.
tek9|aydiiN: Well, it's very simple actually if you like to play the game you will get better at it. I think just playing in my free time non-stop helped me pretty much to reach the top
crow: Obviously you didn't go straight to the top, how did you manage to work your way to where you are now?
taurinebot: I wake up go to school, hang around with some friends or my gf, then I get home and eat something. Afterwards I go to my pc and see if we're gonna play some cod with the team; if not, I start-up footballmanager.:p
tek9 Networks Davy: I still go to school so I get up around 9 in the morning most of the time. Sometimes I take some days off though and then I usually sleep till noon
. Then get washed up and all that cliché stuff and see if I have stuff to do for school. When there's a big event coming up we start praccing at around 18.30 so I make sure I'm online then. But if we don’t have a big lan coming up I play some public/mixes for a bit during the week.
TeK-9 Networks L-KiNG: When I started to play the cod series I wasn’t really interested in getting a pro. I just wanted to play a bit public and enjoy the game, but after a few months I realized that I was kinda talented and then I already had some offers from some good German teams. At the beginning of cod2 I just tried to get a really good team which was team dSLASH in my case. After a few months and my first lan experiences, sko contacted me and asked me to join up the ranks of x6.
TeK-9 Networks L-KiNG: we had a quiet successful time but I just had the feeling that it would be better for me to play in a German team once again and well all German players wanted to be a part of sl at that time and I had the chance to be a part of this team. After some poor results and an atmosphere that didn’t incite me to play on, I decided to join tek9
crow: You have won numerous tournaments under the TEK9 banner now, what would you say is the secret to your success as a team?
tek9 Networks Davy: Each of our players have a special style of play and it seems to blend together great! After a while our team play also improved a lot and we got a great team leader (ozwald), his strategic calls have been really deciding for most of our success and it obviously makes us perform really good.
taurinebot: big balls
crow: What advice would you give to aspiring gamers who aim to follow in your footsteps and go pro?
tek9|aydiiN: Just play the game a lot, watch others demos, always try to do better and improve yourself. Be self confident if you have an opponent who is known and better, then you don't get nervous, just fight the battle. Then you will get better by yourself by just playing a lot and training.
crow: What opportunities has your gaming career given you that you wouldn't otherwise have experienced?
taurinebot: Travelling to other countries for free is pretty cool =) Especially WSVG Dallas was amazing, going all the way to the USA just to play a game.
crow: If each of you were to pick the highlight of your time in gaming, what would it be?
taurinebot: I'd say winning WSVG Dallas, because it was such a big event and it was the first time there was a Europe vs. USA battle in cod2, so it felt good to win it ^^.
ozwaldg: Discovering you could pick M60 in Cod4
tek9 Networks Davy: My highlight surely is winning WSVG. First of all because it was in the USA. I always wanted to go there and this was the perfect opportunity. And coming out on top in the only transatlantic lan tournament with such a big prize pot is amazing of course. Also felt nice to destroy the Americans
(and speedlink hEhE)
TeK-9 Networks L-KiNG: well I had a few really nice events. the oof1 was the first lan that I attended and won and because of that it was a special lan for me. Travelling to the USA and to win the biggest cod2 event so far was also a really nice experience that I wouldn’t like to miss.
tek9|aydiiN: I think the first big LAN in wsvg, when we were there. We had a great time. But the greatest feeling in my gaming career was that we won against Pandemic after a rough final at WSVG to claim the title.
crow: As Ozwald mentioned, you have been playing Call of Duty 4 for the last few days now. What are your initial impressions of the new game?
TeK-9 Networks L-KiNG: I’m really surprised of the game because I didn’t t expect it to be that good. In my judgement it combines the good aspects of cod2 (movement, aiming) and cod4 finally includes a decent rank system which makes the game more interesting for fun gamers.
taurinebot: I like it in general. There are lot's of useless perks and stuff but if the 'tweaking' is done by proper people it will turn out great.
tek9 Networks Davy: I'm loving the game and the more I play it, the more I like it. Just have to see now how the game will work out for competitive play but the i32 tournament was a success and Infinity Ward + Activision seem to give more support to the game than its predecessors. I'm thinking it'll work out great.
tek9|aydiiN: I think the game is pretty cool, but it still needs a lot of adjustments. Other then that the weapons are cool, but weak, graphics are nice but you need a super pc to get good fps. So basically it's a good game, but on the other hand a bit crap when you first start playing it.
ozwaldg: Its good.
tek9 Networks Davy: Antonin really is motivated to play it!
ozwaldg: :E
crow: You are currently ranked number one in the world in Call of Duty 2 so you will obviously be setting your sights high in the new sequal. What would you say your current goals are?
taurinebot: Playing more than 2 pcw's a week
ozwaldg: Not getting destroyed at the upcoming lan
tek9 Networks Davy: Of course we hope to continue like that. We've been top 3 at the last 7 or 8 lan events in cod2 of which we won 4. We're looking forward to keep on going like that but it will be hard. Next weekend we're going to Paris but we haven’t played the game as a team yet and only have 3 days to do so. That lan will purely be for the experience of cod4 offline and we will focus more on winning in 2008.
crow: Ok thanks for your time guys and best of luck in Paris !
crow: I'll hand things back to Chatteox now for the next part of the event.
[Xfire] Chatteox: Ok, everyone join me to thank crow from GotFrag.com for the great interview!
ozwaldg: Thanks Crow
taurinebot: Cos there’s an American werewolf in Paris
