Hasta la vista, Vista....

I hated that OS. It's fucking stupid. They added shit that bogs it down, they took away stuff that made XP run smooth, they teased you with "Oh but DX10 is Vista and higher only!" and then almost nothing uses DX10 effects...

First I was amazed at how my fast (or decently fast) computer was bogged down by that stupid Aero interface, which looked ugly (In my opinion) didn't add much to make it more comfortable to use, and again, slowed me down.

Then I switched back to Classic mode which was almost as good as XP, except they took out support for DirectSound 3D and replaced it with some other shit that's supposed to be "new and improved" only it breaks or seriously fucks up some games.

Fallout 3 is a perfect example of this. It ran fine on XP but on vista, you had the sound come in all choppy. There were no decent fixes for this. The closest I came was by increasing the sound buffer to some huge size and hoping that it was big enough to smooth out the choppy sounds and small enough that it wouldn't make my game crash more often than it does already.

The final straw for me was with some kind of hard disk error the other day. I couldn't play anything on TF2 because it would go for 3-5 seconds, then freeze for 2 seconds and repeat. Well, it wasn't always 3-5 seconds of play and 2 seconds of freeze, but it was about that ratio.

I don't know what the hell Vista did to it, but it was seriously starting to make me pissed... especially if I was trying to play a game and the game would decide to just lock up for 8 seconds.

So yeah, vista is history, and I'm about to break the disc into a thousand pieces so I'm never tempted or foolish enough to try installing it again...not even as a dual boot. It's fucking WORTHLESS.

BTW: If you're on vista and like it, you either don't know better, or you're a glutton for punishment...or maybe you've learned to live with the flaws as part of life. NOBODY SHOULD BE FORCED TO LIVE WITH AN INFERIOR PRODUCT.

Unless you've got one of the few games (less than 40)that support DX10, I would suggest getting your hands on XP until windows 7 is out officially. Oh and of all the DX10 effects, I'm betting most of them aren't that big of a difference.

DX11 on the other hand, (when that comes out) will be a VERY big deal. Basically it'll make it possible to make games look prerendered but in real time (if the hype is to be believed).

Anyway, if you can avoid Vista, avoid it.

yeah, i personally have never even used vista once. but i hear it is major shit.
hoping 7 is better, might get that once XP gets thrown out of the loop eventually, so i can just skip right over vista.

I've heard they've learned from their mistakes and made the OS a lot less bloated, but that could just be because it's still in development.

Really, it took 3-5 years before xp was good and stable... maybe they'll finally fix Vista to be worth using in 2013 or something.

Everything just works better in XP for me. I didn't see any games that made use of DX10 effects so I don't miss that.

Try WIN7. It's good. Btw, I used Vista for a month and I didn't have any problems with it, except the DX10, which was a peace of shit.
