F2P isn't very... free
2010-07-01 12:22 PM PDT
Wowzers, what an experiment. After trying and actually playing a few F2P MMOs for an hour or two or 800, I'm exhausted. lol

Of course free to play is just a play on words, a marketing ploy. Nothing like that is free. Guild Wars is close, but still a buy to play, just no subscription, but you will have to buy full priced expansion packs, and they do have a cash shop, albeit only at their website. Guild Wars 2 is coming soon enough.

WoW and EQ2 have recently offered microtransaction items in a cash shop, in essence. Both have/had a mount for 25 USD. Sheesh, somewhat like Free Realms, you pay a monthly subscription and still have a cash shop for those items you want but surely don't need. Want... I want... I WANT IT ALL!! lmao

Christmas and birthdays mean so much more to kids these days than when I was a tween/teen. To buy virtual merchandise... depends on your concept of your own personal reality.

Damn, gaming is getting more and more expensive, and I need to upgrade my computer soon! x_x

New Year's 2010

Woo, 2010 is here!

I've been playing a few games lately, trying to figure out which one I like. I'd have to say it's Runes of Magic, English US (enus) region, Govinda server.

They say it's a WoW-clone, but WoW has no player housing or guild housing and no dual class system. While many things are similar, it is not WoW. It's a MMORPG, period. They're all based off of the original grindcore Everquest anyway.

More to come later, but for now, I'm lost in Taborea.

Escapism

Really, all I need is a good MMO to get lost in for persistent hours, weeks, and months. Indeed, escapism at it's best.

Admit it, you do this too. Or know someone that does, or at least you suspect this is why they play online for days straight. To escape the real world and real life and lose oneself in a fantastic world with no financial, health, weather, or romantic worries. Yes, the virtual world is a perfect world compared to the real world. At least in my virtual online world... I'm in control of "myself."

A good MMORPG to get lost in, some good killin' music to jam to and kill some time (and mobs and brain cells) to, and it's like my personal slice of heaven. Is it yours?
